NEW UNIVERSE: Starbrand -- anyone pick it up? [ SPOILERS ]

I'm surprised.. I didn't think I'd like it based on the preview..

To explain..

From the preview, I thought it was some alien from another universe exploring.. which, to me, was pretty off from the original intent of the "world outside your window" concept.

Anyways, long story short, this comic had a lot of advanced concepts I didn't expect, and they actually worked.

- Quantum mechanics/Multiple World/Schroedinger's Cat
- Metatextual (think Animal Man)

And it's interesting to consider the idea that the Starbrand draws on power from multiple universes at once. As far as I know, this concept hasn't been explored in a superhero before has it?

Great setup, and it goes a long way to fixing some of the earlier series mistakes (admittedly at the time they didn't seem to bother me, but in retrospect I can see it). I also enjoyed how they explained why PITT/Black Event happened.

Here's hoping Ellis' newuniversal manages to keep things going with this direction. I've got high hopes for the new ongoing. I just hope Psi-Force gets utilized in the new series.

I couldn't get into it because of the art. Not that it was bad or anything, but I have very fond memories of JRjr's art from that book.

Did like the use of the invunerable guy.

Is this written by Jeff Parker of "Interman" fame?

No idea about the author.. but the artist was Javier Pulido.. he does a good Kirby imitation..

I can understand the criticism though.. the colors were a lot brighter as well, but times have changed.

wait- I'm confused. This isn't the one written by Ellis? But it's still New Universe right?

Does this lead into to Ellis' run?

Ok I just checked and it is the same writer

I didn't know he was writing the new Avengers book as well. I'll definitely be checking out his stuff in the future. Impressive showing.

No, this is the Untold Tales thing.. it fits into continuity well.

As far as Ellis' take.. I doubt it.. but given some of the high concepts introduced, I wouldn't mind seeing Ellis go in that direction. It seems like something he writes well.

I got excited for a second when I thought this said "NEW UNIVERSE: Streisand" but then I reread it and don't care.
