I have been working on this for awhile. I originally wanted to try to make a mock movie poster, but I just couldn't find the time, so I just made a list.
When fantasy casting a film, I always try to keep it realistic. Too often, fantasy casts are filled with all Oscar-winning actors who command 8 figure deals. I try to keep it within a feasible budget. I basically role-play as if I was a casting director..
I picked Patrick Warburton as Walker before I ever found Jinxword or read any posts on the matter. I know Bendis thinks that no one would come to see it with him, but I think as long as the film was good, and you could compensate in other areas, I think it would work. Provided that Warburton can act the character. Truthfully, we don't know. He has mostly played comedy characters. He is an actor, though, so as a actor, he should be able to pull it off. It would also open up many doors for him to play other characters if he pulled it off.
So here is my list, with annotations:
1) The City -- The city should be colorful and mimic a modern American city, without being identifiable. Like Gotham from Batman Begins
2) The Badge -- I think a Powers Homicide badge would be one of the coolest movie prop replicas EVER.
3) Patrick Warburton as Walker
4) Ali Larter as Pilgrim. Pilgrim should not be a glamorous actress. Pilgrim is a tough tomboy. She needs to be played by someone who is down to earth and can be tough and sarcastic. Larter can look very down to earth and even dresses like Pilgrim half the time (look at the pics below). She also showed a very sarcastic/P.O.'ed side in Jay and Silent Bob.
5) Jon Favreau as Cpt. Cross.
6) Honestly, I never found a Callista I liked. I looked on Google for Child Actor sites and the like. The best one I found was the one shown below, Paige Berryman. She would obviously have to dye her hair, if she does not look too old. Who knows how long ago that photo was taken.
7) Colin Ferrell as Kutter. Granted, he commands a big salary, but since Kutter's role is so small, it could probably be done in just a few days. You could then include his name in all the posters and advertising. Besides, he does a lot of action and/or cop films and is a great actor who can look the part.
8 ) David Krumholtz as Jon Jacob Stevens.
9) I had a hard time with Johny Royalle. I finally settled on one of two. Anthony Michael Hall or Andy Dick. Now, I know people will freak out with Dick, but as before, he IS an actor and has been known to play many many characters on his show. As long as he could deepen his voice and play it without his natural obnoxiousness, it should work, and he does match the character art better.
10) Ben Kingsley as Wolfe.
11) Ophélie Winter as Zora.
12) Mitch Pileggi as Triphammer. He's balding, is a tall, buff guy. I even found a pic of him with the funky handlebar mustache that Triphammer had..
13) Charlize Theron as Retro Girl. The other A-lister I allowed myself. As with Colin Ferrell, she would only film for a breif time, so she could be fairly cheap. Also, Retro was America's Sweethart and Charlize seems to fit that bill now. Her connection with another Bendis property would make a neat anecdote at parties, as well.
14) John Mahoney as Ted Henry.
15) If the Unity story was ever made, David Mack should play Detective Mack.
16) If ridealong was ever made, Warren Ellis should play Warren Ellis.
Note: The character pics were taken from the excellent Powers Online site -- go check it out!!
