10 - Everything I want in a comic, an instant classic
9 - Excellent, a nearly perfect read
8 - Highly recommended but it has minor flaws
7 - Very good, it does have some problems
6 - Above average but has deep flaws
5 - An average comic
4 - Below average, the flaws outweigh the good
3 - A disappointing comic
2 - Forgettable, a waste of time
1 - Stay away!! One of the worst comics I've read
Anyone who participates is asked to please keep this scale in mind when giving a grade so that everyone is operating on the same system.

Re: BB Review Group week 203 - Supergirl #34 (spoilers)
In a lot of ways this feels like a new #1.
It's no secret that since the premiere, Supergirl has been a bit of a trainwreck. There have been 8 writers on the book in the first 33 issues, and almost each one has tried to revamp the book into something not really resembling Supergirl. But in recent months, Geoff Johns has taken it upon himself in the pages of Action Comics to establish her character better than any of those eight writers. Now, spinning out of that solid foundation, is this new run on the title by Sterling Gates. He's got a great grasp on the character, and Jamal Igle's art is pretty good (if not exactly flashy). The best thing the title does is ground the series in Superman's supporting cast. Seeing Supergirl play off the various members of the cast makes it a lot more interesting than having her randomly guest-star in the Outsiders or visit a post-apocalyptic future. It's mostly a character-building issue before all hell breaks loose with New Krypton, but I think that's what's needed. If you're not a fan of the current direction of Superman, I doubt you'll like this, but Supergirl finally feels like a member of the Superman family, and not a moment too soon.

I hope this new turn works for Supergirl. It seemed like they were on the right track, then it got derailed all over again. Hopefully this new start is the right trick.
Re: BB Review Group week 203 - Supergirl #34 (spoilers)
Yeah, it was pretty great actually. Igle is going to graduate into one of DC's best talents. He especially seems to get the Superman supporting cast. His Clark Kent looks like its right out of Superman The Movie.
On the issue itself, it was cool that we got to see a followup on some of the character's backstory. I had almost forgotten that she had a close relationship with Wonder Woman per the Superman/Batman arc that introduced her. All of the character moments rang true ESPECIALLY the Robin/Conner scene. That said, I'm glad that they're not setting up and identical status quo as with Conner. The final reveal of the new status quo was both unexpected and promises to fully integrate a classic supporting character who has been bounced around for decades. This has all the potential to be a classic run with two untested creators that seem to be ready to prove themselves. Cool. Oh, and it made me care about Supergirl. I suppose that was the most important part. 9/10

I think it's pretty fruitless to compare a book like Supergirl or Thor against something like Fables. They set out to accomplish different things. And for me, the Superman books are just about flawless right now.

You are dead on, my friend. This book was easily a 9 out of 10. It did exactly what it needed to complete the three Superman/Krypton family of books!
