ROBERT KIRKMAN - Video Editorial

Robert Kirkman has posted his MISSION STATEMENT on Comic Book Resources.

Well worth the thought put into it and the goals set forth!

What say you?

Not sure I agree 100%, but there's a lot there that I like.

Re: ROBERT KIRKMAN - Video Editorial

....Now you see I really like Kirkman's stuff, but ever since he released that article that was basically, "All the submissions I read are terrible." I take his editorials with a grain of salt.

No one's holding a gun to creators' heads to have them do ONLY Spiderman or ONLY Batman, they just want to take a crack at it and can also do creator owned stuff at the same time. If they have stories to tell about Spiderman or Superman or Wolverine, let them tell their stories.

Let's take Punisher for example. The Max line is, by most, considered to be the greatest Punisher stories ever yet he was originally created in a "children's" comic. I think the industry right now is about happy mediums and companies are taking advantage of their characters' popularity with movies and such.

Kirkman's got his heart in the right place, but I think he's a bit off.

Re: ROBERT KIRKMAN - Video Editorial

I'm good with this, expessially with Kirkman, I prefer his Creator owned stuff hands down to anything else he's done. Not to say I hate all of his marvel work.

I don't know if I totally agree that comics will die with our generation. I wouldn't mind seeing a shakeup like this though.

Re: ROBERT KIRKMAN - Video Editorial

And truth be told, changing the content of comics isn't going to make them more lucrative. If you want them to get into kids' hands, you have to make them cheaper. Its a hard, cold fact but this generation of kids just isn't like the generations of the past. There's cable tv, and the internet, and xbox, etc.

For the price of three comics, a kid can see a movie. Now, which one do you think they're going to choose?

I think Kirkman is dead right in this editorial. And I applaud him doing it even though he's gonna take a ton of heat from the mainstream.

I'm apparently agreeable today, because I also agree with this entirely.

Diversifying the market is essential to preventing a death spiral of the comics industry.

If the industry continues to be dominate dominated by superhero comics, it will remain insular and will have an ever-shrinking customer base.

Even if the prices of comics were halved, if the content isn't changed, the market will still stagnate.
