This morning I received a very interesting email from Warren Ellis that I didn't read till just a while ago. I think all of the creators on this board will be very interested in it.
Quote:
Welcome to Creator’s Corner.
What exactly is Creator’s Corner? Besides the fact that it has an incredibly cheesy name, it’s a place… well, let me have Mr. Warren Ellis, writer of many comics explain it to you first.
I think I’m probably not going to do
this — lack of time/money/willingness
to throw sanity away — so I’m
tossing the idea out there to see if
anyone else wants it.
A mass groupblog by people who
make comics.
A place solely for the talking of
making comics, by people who make
comics. A live, comics-based
version of the PROJECTIONS film
books, if you like.
There are some 300 people on this
list who make comics — pro, indie,
self-pub, web.
Give as many people as you like
posting access — but keep it to the
people who actually make comics.
Enable commenting, but force
registration for commenting so that
you can control and remove people.
Restrict posting categories down
to, say, News, Theory, Technical
or Craft, Appearances, Announcements,
On Release… something like that.
And let it go. Let people from all
fields talk about comics in the same
place. Let conversations build
call-and-response style, as well as
in commenting.
I’m pretty sure this is all buildable
in the current version of Wordpress.
You won’t be able to run it off
something like Blogspot, and Moveable
Type can slow down pretty badly
once a volume of entries has
built up.
It could launch pretty big, so you’ll
need bandwidth in hand. It’ll also
slow down pretty hard after the
first couple of weeks, so be ready
for that too. I wouldn’t advise
letting everyone host images on
the site’s webspace — get people to
use Flickr or something.
And think big. Think a hundred
people. Give each participant their
own name as a category, maybe,
to help search along. Make it a huge
space for creators thinking about
the art of comics such as no other
medium has.
There you go. Do something with
it. I’m busy.
— W
So there you go. Those are his own words and I just decided to run with it.
So, how do you do this? Well, first you have to register if you want to post a comment on this site or even become someone who can post on here. Now, to be able to post on here, you have to be a comic creator. It doesn’t matter if you’re a pro, indy, self-published, or what not. If you can show me some kind of proof then you can be a creator who posts on here.
Now, why would you want to post here when you can have your own blog? Because this blog has the potential and possibility to gather thousands upon thousands of people here a day alone. That’s a hard number to pass up. You get to spend time with creators that you love and you get to be amongst them.
Comics is a field I very well love and will continue to pursue a career in it for a time to come. This place allows people of all ages and stages of their careers to post about their careers, where they’ll be next, books they have coming out, etc.
It’s your playing field.
Have fun.
If you need to contact me to become a poster on this site then send me an email at craig.maloof@gmail.com. It may take a while to get back to you depending on how many are interested, but it won’t take very long, I promise.
Thanks,
Craig
I'm urging everyone from this board, creators and fans to sign up and start taking part in this. This has the potential to be huge.
Thanks guys.
Craig

I kinda zoned out there, but I'll have a closer look soon.
So, what are you looking for? People to come and read it, and post comments about what the creators say?

I'm looking for all comic creators to come and sign up and post on this blog. You talk about comics, upcoming books, your craft (writing, pencilling, inking), etc.
You can also comment and others can come and comment on certain posts. Then, you can chat with all of these fans.
It's like a message board, but much different.

Oh, like the thing they're doing with all the celebrities that Bendis posted about a while ago?
How is that going to work, without degenerating into a mass of white noise?
Is there some kind of "host" that prompts certain people, or is it just a free for all of posting whenever you feel like it?
I'll get in on some of that action, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into!
What would be the advantage over the board I already frequent?
More focused around your comic. The ability for thousands upon thousands of people to discover your comic or who you are. The thrill of chatting with not only hundreds, but thousands of comic fans.

Yeah, exactly like that.
All comic creators are allowed to post, but they have to approved by me before they can do so. That should weed out the non comic creators from the real ones.
Then, the comic creators post when they want to. They post about appearances, tips of the trade, upcoming books, random comic news, etc.

I get most of that here. And I don't want any community to be more focused around my comic. I'm the more subtle pimp.
Not a bad idea, really. It's just not for me.
(That, and you lost me when you said "Warren Ellis.")

That's sounds cool.
I'll sign up. It could be some fun, although, I imagine if there's a BIG crowd, I'll end up one of the reserved posters.
It'd be cool if you could do something like... every friday, arrange a group of creators, and then host something like a panel show. Where there's a structure, and the creators chime in on certain issues.
You could have some of the active ones as regulars, and interchange guests.
I guess you could do it on MSN or something, and post a transcript.
... that's my two cents on it, anyway.
I'll read it again, and find the sign up thing...

Well, it's more then just your comic. This is your chance to converse with other comic fans, creators, and attract a new audience while getting a chance to tell people about upcoming appearances, tips of the trade, etc.
I know that you get that here, and I don't think that this can replace the board nor am I trying to. I'm offering a different sort of atmosphere if you're interested in.
I hope you join AAlgar. I think you'd have a blast
