Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

"Earlier this year, the eccentric leader announced he would provide citizens with natural gas and power free of charge through 2030. But he has also tapped the country's vast energy wealth for outlandish projects -- a huge, man-made lake in the Kara Kum desert, a vast cypress forest to change the desert climate, an ice palace outside the capital, a ski resort and a 40-meter (130-foot) pyramid."

This goofball sounds like a bad Bond villain...

Hopefully his successor will pull the country into the global economy.

Pinochet dead, Nyazov too, Castro in bad condition and Hussein sentenced to death. 2006 was a bad year to be a tyrant.

    Also:
"Under the Constitution, Parliament Speaker Overzgeldy Atayev is to take over as acting president until elections that must be called within two months. The Constitution, however, bans Atayev from running for president in that vote"

Atayev was thrown into jail this afternoon. Now it's the vice-prime minister who's running the show and they (the government) announced they would designate a succesor to Nyazov next tuesday.

Hmmm... When they say Ice Palace, they mean Ice Rink. I don't know what's so outlandish about that. And there is no ski resort (not that it's very important anyway, there are more serious issues in Turkmenistan).

Exactly. That's what makes these things so silly. Changing the climate with a forest? Please...
