    inking help

anybody here have a solution to inking with shaky hands? i cant get constant lines because my hands shake like i sustained major fucking nerve damage somewhere. i usually avoid this problem by digital coloring over pencil sketches. with inks though, the only way i can get a uniform line is by pressing too hard to maintain any delicacy.

Wrist gaurds. Go to a Walgreens and buy one of those wrist braces that people who work with computers all day sometimes use.

Is keeps the hand steady yet allows for the fingers to move.

Wow, I bet this will help me too, even though I'll look like a tool when I'm drawing. It never even occurred to me that my shaky hands would be the cause of my dismal inking.

The best solution: practice. It's likely you're shaking because you're nervous about it. That'll go away with experience.

But while you're working on that, try simply locking your wrist and moving your hand from the elbow or shoulder. I find it difficult to get smooth lines while moving my fingers or wrist...it all comes from further up the arm (at least for me.)

My hands are always shaky, all the time. That also contributes to my messy pencils, but that bothers me a lot less. My shaky hands are partly the reason I want a wacom tablet; being forced to draw with my arm instead of my wrist lets me get a much cleaner line.

no, thats not it. i have been working professionally for a couple years now. i have just avoided using inks as a shortcut around this problem. i have this same problem no matter what mediums i use, but with oil paint or working digitally, everything can be fixed.

to put it another way, if i hold a piece of paper both hands, you can hear it crackling/rattling because of the shaking.

Not really. Some of them look like regular ace bandages, and are just tight on the wrist.

Some have a plate to keep the wrist completely still.

Some look like skater wrist gaurds.

Hell, there are even some REALLY nice gel ones that heat with your body heat and further relax the muscles in your hands. (but those are expensive. I saw one for 300bucks somewhere. Can't remember where but not at Walgreens)
