KONCISE: When cats think of comic book painters, probably the first name that comes to mind is Alex Ross.
Did you find this daunting? I mean the fact that, even though your styles are completely different, that you would constantly be put into a comparison of his work. Or is it this what keeps you at your best?
DM: I can assure you that my cats donít care about that stuff. As long as they have food and can sit on my lap when I paint they are fine.
If that is true or not, I donít find it daunting in the slightest. I donít think in those terms at all. Alex Ross is a fine man. Iíve been pals with him for almost ten years. We used to talk all night on the phone while we painted. I rarely get the impression that people are comparing us, nor do I think about that. I certainly donít think of him, or anyone else, as some kind of competition. What motivates me is purely internal.
