First let me say i loved the movie. BUT i also loved the books, the radio show, audio books and even the TV show, which dispite its lack of budget and slower pacing, I think actually told a better story than the new movie.
I really liked it, although the things I didnt like suprised me- such as Alan Rickman as Marven. He wasnt depressing sounding enough- especially since I have the Marven of the Tapes and the Show in my head- NOW THAT WAS DEPRESSING!
Also, I wasnt sure how clear the story was to people who didnt know the story. In the radio and TV show, the story was REALLY clear, and the story points and jokes tied up nice- but I dont think they did as clearly here- I hear from many reviewers how disjointed the film feels- which is something that didnt happen in the tv show or radio programs, or book tapes.
That said, I liked Mos Def as Ford (except he kind of mumbled or something) Sam was great as Zaphod as the rest of the crew, except maybe Marven voice. But thats just me.
At first, I didnt dig the side adventure and love story, but considering I understandwhy they did it- mainly they wouldnt have had enough time to get to other parts of the story before the movie would have to end.
So I really liked it, only some minor stuff, but all things concidered, they did a great job!

yeah, but the question begs: did you like the comics?
I really want to enjoy this movie when it comes out
Seeing it on Monday hopefully. I remember the BBC TV series from when I was younger, read the book recently and nearly finished the radio series. I'll be interested to see if I find it funny on the big screen.
If you liked the show and radio show, the movie might let you down- except for the visuals and cast
I found I missed Peter Jones as the Book in the last radio series they did but I Stephen Fry was good in the film trailer.
i havent read the books since high school, so ill be goin in somewhat cold... which might work to my advantage. who knows? hopefully im gonna go today to see it.
I just didn't really care for it. It wasn't terrible, but it certianly wasn't fantastic. The Look was right, almost everybody played their parts perfectly, it just wasn't terribly funny, alot of timing problems I felt
and I pity the people who went into that theatre not having read the books, they walked out clueless
Yea, it had story problems, and since both the stories and jokes are so well tied together in the books and tv show, radio show, the movie fell just short of its potential. BUT I still really really enjoyed it.
don't get me wrong, was tons of fun to see something that looked that good, it just feel short with almost every punch line
I understand the scene with Malcovich was something Adams created with his draft of the screenplay, but Malcovich was onscreen so briefly it almost wasn't worth it
The sperm whale scene was done flawlessly, however
