I noticed that myself. I tend to think of USM as its own little corner of the UMU, and not think too hard about continuity, though.
In one of the flashback scenes set 10 years prior, we are told that Nick Fury is a general. However, when he first appeared in the Weapon X arc of Ultimate X-men, he was still "Colonel Fury", and was only promoted after the death of General Ross and the beginning of the Ultimates.
Am I missing something? Awesome issue nonetheless.
