Ultimate Spider-man #100 was awesome, but was there a blunder?

In one of the flashback scenes set 10 years prior, we are told that Nick Fury is a general. However, when he first appeared in the Weapon X arc of Ultimate X-men, he was still "Colonel Fury", and was only promoted after the death of General Ross and the beginning of the Ultimates.

Am I missing something? Awesome issue nonetheless.

I noticed that myself. I tend to think of USM as its own little corner of the UMU, and not think too hard about continuity, though.

He was originally a general, but got demoted because of some shady top-secret dealings. It took him many years to get his rank back.

OK, that's cool. I haven't been reading Ultimate FF or the Galactus books, so my knowledge of the character is by no means comprehensive.

The question is, did Candle make that up or is he actually quoting truth?

Just repeat to yourself, it's just a show, I should really just relax.
