There are ten cities holding advance showings next week on Thursday, May 5th. I got tickets to the showing in Chicago! Atlanta and Boston were both closer, but were already sold out.

I believe that it was ready for a May release, but they didn't want to compete with Star Wars.

It was originally scheduled for April, but bumped back due to so many similar-themed movies (I'm guessing Hitchhiker's Guide and Star Wars?) releasing around the same time. So it's feasible that the movie was done or almost done in anticipation of the original date.
