Here is the deal. I am thinking about getting more comics and using DCBS to offset some of the cost.
I am looking at the Previews for Nov and my list includes 19 comics. Here is a breakdown of my options:
- LCS only = $54.58
- LCS(8 comics) and DCBS(11 comics) = $46.55
- DCBS only = $38.54
I don't want to go the DCBS only route since I like my LCS owner and feel obligated to continue to support him in some capacity. My question is this, should I do the mixture option and save $8? I would get the 8 comics as they came out from the LCS and the 11 in the mail at the end of the month. Is this worth it, or should I just get all of my comics from the LCS?
Sorry if this thread is kinda confusing. I am kinda tired. Thanks for the help and opinions in advance!

Without knowing what your economic situation is and how much you care about local business, nobody can say.
This space intentionally left blank.
On a med student budget I basically said to hell with the LCS. a 40% discount is to good to pass up. It doesn't hurt that Lubbock has only one crappy shop though. I miss the weekly trip to the shop, but I went with weekly shipping from DCBS, so at least I still get my once-a-week fix. Only now it's on Fridays instead of Wednesday.
I feel bad for LCS owners since there is no way they can compete with the discounts online retailers are offering, but that's just the way it is. They're going to have to adapt and offer services that you can't get online.
Obviously, the less books you get, the less you'll save by going with dcbs, so its a close call. And the LCS is great for getting a book now, as opposed to weeks later.
I recently ordered almost $100 from DCBS. If you factor in that some titles were 75% off and some 40% off, I supposed I'm getting my comics for about half price. I still get eight titles pulled at my LCS, plus I still pick up stray items, so he is getting my business, just not as much. I don't want to totally write him off because he's great.
I have always lovedDCBS- until friday.
You have to keep a real eye on them sometimes.
They are suppose to charge your bank account or credit card (whatever you have set up) on the 15th of the month. July's paymet never was taken out, and they double hit me this week.
Just a heads up. I already emailed them, and waiting for a reply. Other than that, they have been AWSOME- there were a couple of times my bank screwed up the payment, and they kindly held off charging me until checks cleared through etc. They also will add stuff to your order that is back issued if they have it (i.e. I have asked for multiple copies of CW and FL to ship out to some troops over in the sandbox, and they have thrown it in the next box coming out to me).
As far as saving money-
My LCS is a hole in the wall. I honestly don't know how this guy manages to stay open. He told me that he would refuse my pull list unless i bought my trades on DCBS. He's not stupid. I think if you keep your pull list close to what it is now, your LCS won't be upset.
As for saving money? Oh dear god- I got the alias omnibus for like 30 bucks, absolute sandman for 52 thereabouts and lost girls for 57. Hardcover savings is just amazing.
Totally reccomend them, but just keep an eye on your bank account.
How long does it take to get your shipment, i get my books from midtowncomics.com and i receive my books the day after they ship, but i only get a 15% discount.
It depends. You can get your stuff shipped weekly, biweekly, or monthly- plus it also depends where you live.
Since most of the stuff I order is trades (or something that I want to try and get cheap), I only have my stuff shipped monthly. I also live one ship day away from them. they usually ship out on friday, i get it tuesday/wednesday (depends bc i get it shipped to work and the idiots on the docks sometimes hold boxes).
If you get your stuff shipped weekly/biweekly they tack on extra money for it (obviously for the extra boxes etc).
Actually, the only other problem i have with DCBS is the fact that they use DHL as their carrier. I HATE DHL. they are the most unfriendly people I ever have had to deal with (both through DCBS and some other places I use to work).
I just wish they change their carrier- DHL likes to take their time sometimes. But I don't blame DCBS for that, I blame DHL.
They usually ship out on Wednesday and get to my place on Friday. Perfect timing for weekend reading. Obviously, the farther you are away from DCBS, the longer it will take to get to you. They are located in Indiana I believe.Originally Posted by RRAIII
