You heard it here first, gamma-fans!
RICK BURCHETT is THE regular penciler on SHE-HULK!
You can check out his work on August 9th's SHE-HULK #10...
...or this week on August 30th's SHE-HULK #11 (with inks by Cliff "WALKING DEAD" Rathburn-- who we've already got hard at work inking Rick's next issue)...
...and, YES, Rick's wrapping up #12 and going right on into #13...
...and then #14, #15, #16... and on and on and on!
And I couldn't be HAPPIER! Rick and I are longtime collaborators from when we teamed up on BATMAN ADVENTURES for DC. We have fun working together and-- if DC hadn't pried us off that book with very large crowbars-- we'd STILL be hammering away on it!
There was many a time when the office was looking for a SHE-HULK artist and I'd throw Rick's name into the pot-- only to find out that due to projects like QUEEN & COUNTRY, Rick didn't have a hole in his schedule! Darn it!
Well, 3rd time was the charm! Marvel asked, Rick said "Yeah!" And here we are! Shulking away!
So in all seriousness-- and with a straight face-- I'm telling you: Rick Burchett is here to stay! He's not going anywhere! We've finally got our regular guy! (Spread the word!)
For those of you who aren't familiar with Rick's work, he's been a trusted and valued member of the Batman side of the DCU-- working on BATMAN, DETECTIVE COMICS, ROBIN, and NIGHTWING. As well as runs on BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BAT and the BATMAN/HUNTRESS mini-series.
Rick has also had long runs on ACTION COMICS, BLACKHAWK, GREEN ARROW, and BLACK HOOD for DC's IMPACT LINE-- as well as working on issues of GREEN LANTERN, PLASTIC MAN, JUSTICE SOCIETY, and LEGION books.
I first became aware of Rick's work when I was following books outside of the Big Two: titles like MS. TREE and THE BADGER-- and seeing his name pop up over in GRIMJACK and E-MAN.
Most recently Rick (versatile guy that he is) has been working on things as varied as the real world intrigue of QUEEN & COUNTRY and the Bruce Timm style DC ADVENTURE line (working on everything from JUSTICE LEAGUE, SUPERMAN, BATMAN BEYOND, and every version of the BATMAN ADVENTURES title)!
Now THAT is impressive!
If you can't tell-- I'M EXCITED! And not just that we've got a steadfast regular artist for this book. I'm excited to be working with RICK again!
By the end of our run of BATMAN ADVENTURES, we were so confident in each other's abilities-- so comfortable working together-- that we started going beyond the job of TELLING the best stories that we could-- we started playing around with the MEDIUM of comics-- of experimenting with comics as an artform. And that's something special-- that's when you love comics SO much it's not just a hobby, job, or passion-- it's a wonderful journey-- an exploration into something new and.. well... EXCITING!
But first things first. Thanks to Rick, we're getting this book back on track. And in very short order, YOU are going to get your issues of SHE-HULK each and every month-- when it's SUPPOSED to be there. So far, you've had 11 months and 11 issues of SHE-HULK Vol. 2. But they've been missing their shipweeks. And I'll take the hit on that. And for my part, I'm trying to step up and make sure that doesn't happen again.
By SHE-HULK #14 (coming out in December), all our ducks should be in a row. (BTW, Greg Horn's cover for #14 is AMAZING-- and, with Tom's permission, I'll be putting that online in just a bit)!
And in January, we'll be kicking off our next arc: SHE-HULK: PLANET W/O A HULK!
And it's gonna be GREAT! The current arc of SHE-HULK has been all about Big Reveals & Sudden Twists, Silly Love & Civil War, Soap Opera & Space Opera...
But come the next arc... it's all about the Punchy-Punchy-Smashy-Smashy! two fisted slugfests in a world where She-Hulk is filling the Incredible-Hulk-Vacuum! Expect to see Jen go toe-to-toe against the Biggest Guns in Ol' Jade Jaws Rogues Gallery! And... even with the non-stop MAYHEM & CARNAGE... there'll STILL be a secret twist or two, so stay sharp, gamma-fans!
All right, that's it. I'm out. But please, do join in-- and give a big welcome to Rick Burchett!
