It is probably one of Hollywood's worst-kept secrets, that Lassie, in her many incarnations, has always been played by a male dog.

    that's called "wiggle room"...

As an aspiring comics writer, I respect and admire Gail - she's one of the best superhero scribes in the field today - regardless of having an "innie" or an "outie".

I know what's she's saying, but I hope Marvel's come a long way in the years since Gail wrote Agent X.

Some of their current best editors are female, and one of their former ones, Teresa Focarile, was a great sounding board and inspiration to me in my earliest submission days.

It would be a shame if the former home of Louise Simonson, Barbara Kesel and Ann Nocenti had deteriorated into a boy's locker room.

i call bullshit on this on so many levels gail. i would tell you privately, but you said it publicly. there are so many female editors at marvel, i can't even imagine what you're referring to.

marvel hired you gail. how is that sexist?

for future reference, if i pitch something and it doesn't get approved, it doesn't make that company anti semetic or anti bald- its bullshit and you had no example of any of this and i think you really owe the editors, good people with families, an apology.

Re: according to gail, Marvel not a good place for aspiring female writers

As much as I like Sean McKeever, Brian Reed and Dan Slott(and I have much hetero man-love for them all), it is kind of shocking to see Marvel put out so many books with strong female protagonists, and have each and every single one of them written by a man. They write them brilliantly, but it does seem like Marvel doesn't have much room for female writers. And we all know how they treated the last male/female writing team that worked for them......(not that it had anything to do with sexism).

But then, let's be honest, who does DC have besides Gail? Jodi Picoult doesn't count. She's a celebrity creator doing a hit-and-run. When's the last time Barbara Kesel got a good gig?

I think, at the end of the day, neither company has a great host of female writers. And given the talent pool in indie comics, that's sort of sad.
