i don't care if it's a guy or a girl writing as long as the writing's good. but i would like to see more strong female centered stories. when i talked to paul jenkins this weekend, he even said that he'd like to write a good story with a female lead that isn't a superhero book.
when i want a good superhero story, i read comics. when i want to read a good female oriented story, i read manga. and i don't mean whiny cutsey girly crap like some shojo(girl oriented) stuff. i mean a good female action book. case in point, i love battle angel alita. it's a great story with lots of action and the main character is female. i like it because i can relate to a female because i am one. just like you guys like and can relate to superhero comics because you're guys.
i think the industry really needs to start looking seriously at female readers. this year in chicago was the most women i've seen there in the 5 years i've been going and i think it's only going to increase.

I've read through page 7 of this thread thus far....but I wanted to say, I love Marvel comics and since I've started writing my own indie comics, never thought that Marvel is against female creators. As many of you know, I hope to one day be fortunate enough to work for Marvel. Though, I will say that I've been told by a couple pros that DC would be a better place for me as a female. Seems to be something a number of creators believe because of the past I suspect. (and no, I won't be naming who said such to me, that's between me and them)

You think Marvel was bad? You should try working for Aardvark-Vanaheim.

I hear the owner and staff at the Girls Gone Wild offices are completely respectful to women. Especially reporters.

I wonder if this means that alot of female creators dislike that Frank Cho draws his women the way he does.

This reminds me a lot of the old talk about SNL. I seem to recall after Janeane Garafalo and a couple other ladies left there was talk for years about how the atmosphere was VERY negative toward women and was like a frat party. I'm not trying to say that's what Gail was talking about, but it's entirely possible that at one time there was a more unprofessional atmosphere where a woman as talented as Gail occasionally felt uncomfortable. It happens in all sorts of job environments and it's not out of the realm of possibility. The important thing to remember is it seems this problem was resolved and all involved can move forward.
