Why Ronin looks like a man answered!

Why not? Do we have reason to believe that it wasn't?

my reasoning is that there was no reason at all for a woman (echo) to have to dress up, and to have to dress up as a man on top of that- she is virtually unkown in the marvel universe except to the kingpin (who was in jail at the time) and has no reason to hide her identity as a ninja named ronin, let alone a ninja who looks like a man.

whether it was the cover change of Daredevil to the lack of ANY reason to believe it is Maya until issue 13...seems like it wasn't the original plan

Not to mention the fact that absolutely no information we were given about this character prior to this arc would suggest ANY connection to the Hand or the Japanese mafia, that she would be enough of an expert in them to take on this mission, let alone stay and monitior the situation for the Avengers.

I think it was in a Wizard issue but Finch said he didnt know Ronin was a woman.

Bendis has repeatedly said it was the plan all along. At this point, he's got nothing to gain by not 'fessing up to it. It would make a cool "behind the scenes" story about how plans changes, esp. in light of internet leaks. But he's stayed consistent. I think we gotta take the bald guy at his word....

Not Joe Q; that was said in a USA Today article. But everytime you bring up the article, everyone now claims that it was largely written without any feedback to Marvel or the creators, i.e., they got exposure for the book in a major publication, which apparently got the story wrong, and made no public attempts on the hundreds of comic book websites, or even Wizard, to address the misleading information.
