    MOON KNIGHT #4

Allow me to be the first (officially, since Thud didn't really review this book) to say that this issue was terrible.
Huston's writing made me so angry I couldn't read any more comics afterwards. Although my girlfriend is really INSISTING I read Ultimate Spider-Man. What the hell was up with the "Previously in" page? Did anybody else read that? All the two-three word sentences? The entire book felt like Humphrey Bogart was tripping on acid and talking to me. I hated it! And that scene (y'know, the one that took all issue!) where the guy is explaining something to some girl he just banged, of course- before the issue started! Well, that scene would NEVER happen. Because that guy stunk and would never have been able to hold ANY girl's interest talking that way. Trying to sound all smart and knowy...uhg. Man this was a bomb. Finch does do some highly detailed art but at what cost? What's the point?

i really enjoy this book, but it is hard to deny that there are some issues with the pacing. sweet christ, i wanna see marc kick the shit out of taskmaster already. i guess if you look at the pacing as a way to build up some strong tension, huston is doing a bang-up job.

this book is also the first time i've really, really enjoyed finch's art. it's such a perfect fit for this book.

i'm definitely still enjoying and really anticipating each new issue of this series.

I'm not going to officially review this book because I'm waiting for the trade to read the story.

However I flipped through my LCS's preview copy last week.

The art is great, but all I could think was, "We're in issue #4 and Marc is still sitting in his room moping around."

Granted I haven't read it yet so maybe it will work for me, but just from looking at the book I'm happy I decided to wait for the trade. The book appears to be moving at a snail's pace.

If you like Charlie Houston check out his vampire novel Already Dead. I read it earlier this year and thougth it was very good.

I stopped buying Moon Knight after issue 2. It looked nice, but I really didn't like the story at all.

The Krypto in your sig is very cute, who drew it?

I'll continue to say it: I'm buying this book for Finch's art, and loving it for that reason. I find the pencils incredible.

I like what Huston is doing in a general way - he is taking us in a supernatural and violently bloody direction, and he's over the top in the right places (very appropriate for a Marvel Comics superhero) - but the other reviewers are right, it is alarming that Marc's still sitting in his apartment in issue #4. Will it pay off when the arc is collected? I don't know.

For me, issue #3 was the high point so far. Perhaps Huston is pacing this series like the novels he's used to, when a more appropriate pace would be a television drama, like LOST, where things progress from episode to episode. You can avoid a lot of closure if the viewer believes they are at least moving along.

I'll still give this a 7/10, based mostly on quality work that could be helped by some clarity.

I was planning on dropping this book after #2 - too slow and not enough going on to keep my interest. Then Schwicaz let me know that Taskmaster showed up in #3 so I bought it and my interest was renewed. Now #4 has pulled me back in completley. I really like Profile and his abilities. I really like how Huston's re-shaping the MK mythos to show that he's not a mere Batman rip-off but that he's actually a bad ass who likes hurting people, making him the perfect avatar for a god of vengence. This bodes well for future issues. And I'm a sucker for Taskmaster - I bought his first appearance in the Avengers when I was a wee lad and have loved him ever since. Huston does good Taskmaster.

And it should go without saying that Finch's art is the shit here - he's doing his best work ever, in my opinion.

Ultimately, I think this first arc will be a much better TPB than it is as a bunch of single issues - Huston is plodding at times and each individual issue is a bit frustrating in terms of how much actually happens. However, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that this is meant to be expository and ride through this first arc to see how the second goes.

    8/10.

I just hope the cliffhanger in #5 won't be that Moonie back in costume, I wanna see Moon Knight eating Taskmaster's face!
