Re: BB Review Group week 90 - Moon Knight #4 (Spoilers)

Todd decided to pick a mid-arc issue of a book that we already did before, and not that long ago... also it's one that I really didn't like, I gave it a 2 the first time around.... so yea, I'm skipping this week.

Also just so everyone knows I'll be at gone most of the week, going to WWC, so I'll be updating when I can but it might be awhile before I update the main post but please just keep going and I'll get it updated when I can.

Re: BB Review Group week 90 - Moon Knight #4 (Spoilers)

I guess I could apologize for my pick, but it would be insincere as I am loving this title and, hey, this was my most anticipated title of the week and on my first choice, I shouldn't have to defend it.

Charlie Huston continues to frustrate me. He is a phenomenal writer, I've had the pleasure of exploring one of his novels. His work here is also great. A menacing, terrifying atmosphere is fostered throughout the issue, we get clever dialogue, a villain with an ingenious "power" in The Profiler, and the reader is genuienly able to empathize with a brutal killer in his plight.

Huston properly defines the complexities of Marc Spector's psyche, such as the fact that he kills because he is seaking unconditional love from a deity to replace that which he could never secure from his father, and that he was Moon Knight because killing was easy, and when he had to try and overcome pain and adversity, he quit. Watching him go from a shell and being built up to his former prominence is engaging.

The problem is that Huston still keeps the reader confused, with the story moving at a snails place and it is quite obvious his transition from prose to sequential storytelling is proving a tad difficult for him. Still, what the writer gives us overcomes this in my mind, and the way Huston throws little snipits of Spector's past (such as The Profiler telling an emotionally conflicted girl he slept with in a way to boast how wise he is) makes it feel natural.

David Finch's art is so detailed, it's almost distracting. He uses a very detailed, gritty style with every muscle defined, and he boasts a cinematic eye for layouts. The gruesome aspects of the script are brought to life in horrific, bloody detail. This is a career high for Finch, as his work here is the stuff of legend.

    My Final Rating: 9/10

Good pick next week. I like that we're reviewing a lot more DC lately. Having skimmed the issue already, I can tell that opinion will be split.

I'll get to Moon Knight tonight.

Don't worry, the bad weeks are at least memorable.

I think you should be okay, though. I enjoyed it, so you've got one positive review, at least.

I picked up issues 3&4 today. I will read them, and then post my thoughts. I'm kind of glad you picked this title, Todd. Because I liked 1 & 2, but didn't pick up 3.
I am made out of water. You wouldn't know it, because I have it bound in. My friends are made out of water, too. All of them. The problem for us is that not only do we have to walk around without being absorbed by the ground but we also have to earn our livings.

Re: BB Review Group week 90 - Moon Knight #4 (Spoilers)

Just finished reading it. I'll give it a solid 8/10.

Nothing really to nitpick on why I didn't give it more, but it wasn't superb in my opinion. It was definitely above average and I am REALLY enjoying this series a lot. Very dark and it's driving me nuts to not see Marc kicking ass yet but it looks like it's coming soon. I am not exactly what you would call a Moon Knight afficianado by any means. I did read all of the last mini put out in the late 90's. I read the occasional issue from the original ongoing too, but that's about it. Huston's storytelling is very nicely paced and makes me hope and pray he's on this book forever. Finch's art is phenominal too. I've always been a fan but this takes it to a new grittier level. I actually feel like I needed a shower after today's issue. Good stuff and I can't wait to se where it goes!

I've been loving this book since issue one. Great showing of mental breakdowns and the whole book is really one crazy ride inside the guy's mind. I can't wait to see how this progresses because it's just been awesome so far.

    9/10!
