I'm surprised it took me so long to figure this out.
An arguement used against homosexuality in general and especially for against gay marriage is that people choose to be gay.
There are three reasons why someone will say this:
1. They don't understand how someone could be homosexual. This repulses them, so they beleive it's a choice.
2. They're gay and repressed. They honestly beleive that their is something wrong with them like everyone says so, so, they choose not to be gay. Often leads to suicide.
3. They're bi.
On a tangent, I heard one of the craziest things I ever heard from a girl I worked with. She doesn't date often and claims to be straight. But the last person she kissed was a girl. She said she enjoyed it. She says she hates how men behaves, and when we were friends, she was trying to groom me to "be the perfect man."
She would stay at my apartment and sleep on the floor with me, with an arm around me. But, then she tried to out me. But I wasn't gay, she said she was looking for a gay best friend, the end. So, basically, she likes gay people. But get this, she said once, "I don't understand how anyone can be bisexual. It makes me sick. You have to choose, gay or straight. Bisexuals make me sick."
WTF?? I realized then, that she's bi. She hates bis because she hates herself. She really believed that one has to choose between being gay or straight.
And that's the core of this problem. We know that 10% of people are gay. Look in your families and you should be able to count 1 gay cousin for every ten (I have 10 and one is gay, my friend as 42 and 4 are gay and she's bi). But how many are bi? We'll never know because I'm sure a great number of bisexuals "choose" to be straight. And who could blame them in this society?
So, I'm guessing that a portion of the arguement that "people choose to be gay" comes from bisexuals who are not aware that they are bi.
I post this in order to try to bring some kind of understanding into our social bigotries. This is nothing against bisexuals.

i dont find his sig disgusting but i do find it annoying. that is why i turned off sigs and avatars. however, if someone makes a comment about a particular sig i will click on that persons profile to see whats up.
