    Is Alan Moore overrated?

The question that all of you nerds think about before you go to sleep....now, it can finally be answered.

Sure, he's written some of the best comic pieces ever, but are they really THAT good or that important?

Like, Lost Girls. Would it be erotic garbage if you didn't know Moore was the writer?

Just curious to see what public opinion on this is...

Edit: And if he's not overrated, is there any feeling that Moore gets more (hah!) of an artistic license due to his past achievment and work than other writers?

Alan Moore deserves every accolade he's received. He is one of the most intelligent writer of comics today. Every detail of every panel is there for a reason and is used to further the story.

If Alan Moore were not writting Lost Girls I doubt I'd give it a chance, but because it's him I know he will handle the topic seriously, thoughtfully, and honestly. I know he will focus on the story and not the smut.

Kinda a glut of Alan Moore threads today, eh?

No, he isn't overrated. Maybe sometimes overhyped, but in my opinion he's every bit as good as he's commonly said to be.

I haven't read Lost Girls yet, so I don't know if it will qualify as erotic garbage or an intelligent exploration of sexuality and coming of age, and the taboos associated with them. With his track record, I'm going to assume it will be the latter.

I would not say Moore is overrated at all. Some may not see his works as important today, but their impact on the world of comics is undeniable.

Moore is amazing. Not overrated at all.

He's more limited than he gets credit for. His type of writing doesn't work on any level or genre nearly as well as some.

    Re: Is Alan Moore overrated?

I might as well throw my opinion in:

Moore is awesome in every way, but I do feel that not all of his works are perfect as others do, and sometimes his work feels overhyped and overdone purely because it's OMG ALAN MOORE!!11

I do think, however, Lost Girls, having read some of the single issues when they were published by Avatar, would be considered pornographic/erotic nonsense if it was anyone BUT Moore.

Is he one of, if not the, best comic writer(s) ever? Yes. But is he infallible like many people in the comic community treat him. No way.

    Re: Is Alan Moore overrated?

Unfortunately, having read no Alan Moore, my credibility is severely in question.

Never the less, my relative disinterest in his projects despite probing is part of what leads me to believe he is typically overrated.

I believe he's a good writer, and has produced a large body of solid, and perhaps even memorable work. I don't, however, believe in the comics deity he has been built up to be. An image partly perpetuated by the man himself, which one also has to give credit to.

The guy seems to play the biz well.
In a way that may never be seen, or possible again in an industry cut at the knees by the flood of information available on the internet. The distance is gone.
