Congrats to Dingo (And the runners up). From what I saw, they all deserved.

That being said, I'm said all of our efforts haven't been enough to save this book.

Hopefully, people won't stop pimping this book their friends and comic book stores because the contest is over. That's keep talking about the TPB! I want more Thing!

Dingos away for this week I think but congrats to him - he truly did a great job. Actually he was the one who organised and ran the competition at Year One as well - we're sending the Save Dans Thing strip to the winner as well as a comission from me (poor soul).

Dan will be pleased to know that Year One consists of me (Australia as well - heck 5 minutes down the road from Dingo) And Jess (england) so postag eis gonna be a pain in the butt He'll have to rip a trade in half and send one to each continent Although we already have all of his recent work anyway..

On the down side, yeah it is sad that it didnt really help out. I just feel good supporting Dan since he is one of my favourite writers producing stuff today..

Congratulations to the winners! I'm glad to see people haven't taken their sigs down yet - there could still be some life in the book, if enough people buy the collection.

Also, it's interesting that Dan acknowledges the #1 effect. It's a shame that most series don't get the chance to get a good footing on what they are setting out to achieve. I do feel like THING took a few issues to figure out what the book was, or how to do it anyway. Perhaps a sensible launching format in future might be one along the lines of She-Hulk vol 1, where the first four issues were stand-alone stories with a few threads running through the background. It gives the creators a chance to wet their feet with a lot of stories about these characters and makes it much easier for readers to familiarise themselves with the book (or, for that matter, jump on board).

Also, I think launching THING with the promise of "done-in-ones" but an initial story arc lasting three issues did it no favours. What's more, I don't feel like the original art team gelled particularly well on the book, but the team of Kieron Dwyer and Laura Villari is really working, for me at least. I think it's the combination of the roughness of Dwyer's lines and the brightness of Villari's colours that come together and make it truly the Thing (because to me, that's who he is at his best - rough and colourful!), whereas with DiVito it all looked way too slick for my liking (which is a shame because I like his pencil work).

I also find it interesting that the majority of readers tend to label all of Dan Slott's books as comedy books. I think some of them are about as much comedy as any of the others on the market - the only difference being that Dan does humour to a much superior standard than most other writers, and isn't afraid to show it.

Agreed..its annoyed me to hear that The Thing was a joke book. I love how people form opinions before ever reading the material..

I think this Marvel would do great in the Digest market... It's not kiddy but it's not for adults either, its for anyone. It's not to bogged down in continuity so Marvel could attempt to use this to get these younger kids or teenagers interested in the Marvel Universe proper, not the MA one they've created. So far they would of been introduced to the MU Thing, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Iron Man etc. Sooner or later Marvel have to get people into their main unverise (Where the majority of books are set).

I've got 20 copies of Thing tpb on order and I've already been prepping customers for its arrival.

The Lord Retail: I happened. Lord Retail happened to you. I'm sorry friend, but I simply can't turn it off..
