I picked this up, thinking it was a Civil War tie-in. It wound up being another mid-arc issue. I'm not a big fan of this book, and I really don't think it would be too fair of me to try to review a mid-arc issue of a book I don't like. So I'm out this week, and I'll let the real readers of this book take it.

Yea, I don't see why it has Civil War on the cover either.

Everything has "Civil War" on the cover. I think I even saw it on the OMAC Special.

    Re: BB Review Group week 78 - She-Hulk vol. 2 #7 (spoilers)

esides being a superhero comic, a romance comic, a courtroom dram comic, She-Hulk is above all else a comedy comic. Comedy is difficult to write. At least that is what we always hear. If you write comedy without the right timing, or tone you fail miserably. A writer can make a lot more mistakes in a non-comedy comic, and still have a successful product; in comedy, not so much. The main subject of this issue is sexual assault. Sex is funny. Sexual assault is not funny. Sexual assault is never funny. Nothing about sexual assault is funny. The writer has taken a difficult task, and made it much harder. By writing on this topic, he is walking on a virtual tight rope. I approached this issue with grave reservations, and was prepared to pounce if I felt the writer crossed the line.

Since the topic was not brought to a close in this issue, and doesn't look to be for some time, some judgement must be reserved for a later time. In terms of this issue, the line was not crossed. The issue was well crafted as the writer managed to keep the light tone that the title is know for without ever making light of the subject matter. Without coming off as preachy or judgmental, the writer was also able to touch on some of the issues associated with the criminal justice system and celebrities on trial. This was a solid piece of writing; even the art seemed to have a more serious tone than past issues.

    Re: BB Review Group week 78 - She-Hulk vol. 2 #7 (spoilers)

I really didn't care for how this one turned out. And it's a shame because the idea of trying Starfox for sexual harassment is a great idea. But the way Slott characterized him I thought was way off.

Am I just not remembering the character correctly? I admit it's been a few years since I've read any of his stories but I always thought of him as being a hero. A flipant one maybe, and yes a playboy. But still a good guy, one who would not actually use his powers to rape women.

Yet Dan has him not only unconcerned about the charges, but actually bored and making jokes. And when it gets uncomfortable Dan just has him abandon the planet he protected as an Avenger with the comment "A pity, I always did enjoy this planet. Ah well"? Leaving it implyed that he is guilty and also actually raped a fellow Avenger?

Another confusing thing is Slott didn't even resolve that point, he left it unclear wether Eros really did it or if it was just Jen getting carried away in a rage. Why leave that hanging there? The whole thing just didn't work for me at all.

The art? Sorry but I didn't care for it either. Not just a style issue (it not being like Bobillo) but it's fairly unappealing and bland to me.

It's a shame we are reviewing this particular issue. Because I love the series and am a big fan of Slott's work. But if I am being fair, this is a 6 at best.

Basically every Marvel title for the last month has had a Civil War countdown logo on the cover--including titles which are not going to be doing tie-ins at all (such as THING). Its just to hype the upcoming event.

The issues that are actually Civil War tie-ins with have the special Civil War cover design with the "CIVIL WAR" logo taking up half the cover; there shouldn't be any confusion once they start hitting the stands.

She-Hulk is going to be one of the official tie-ins though isn't it? Next issue?

My shop was sold out. Damn.
I am made out of water. You wouldn't know it, because I have it bound in. My friends are made out of water, too. All of them. The problem for us is that not only do we have to walk around without being absorbed by the ground but we also have to earn our livings.

    I'm giving this a 6.

I like this book a whole bunch and actually read it in trade, but this issue left me cold. There wasn't enough funny, and the serious bits didn't pay off. I'm expecting the entire arc to read better in trade, but in this issue, the big deal was for Jen to realize she may have been manipulated into sleeping with Starfox. Which was my first thought when she talked about hooking up with him. Yet it took her the rest of ths issue to figure out that she might've been influenced by him. I don't like it when I'm smarter than the plot of the book I'm reading. And I failed to be interested in the power fluxuations, and it's pretty clear to me that Jen's new BF may be putting some kind of Starfox-like whammy on her, but that didn't really go anywhere this issue, depsite the numerous hints.

    I liked the art.

If it weren't for the more interesting issue of the perjury and the witnesses coming on the stand seemingly to just be near him some more, this'd be a 5. I found that interesting. There's a lot of territory to mine here and I feel like the issue didn't cover enough of it to earn a higher number.
