However, is it important that your significant other follow some TV show regularly? Know that such and such a band has a new album out on date X? That the _____ holiday weekend is the theatre release date for a potentially great film and is hyped to see it? Reads every book written by a certain author? And so on.

Or could you live happily forever with someone if they had not a bit of knowledge of pop culture beyond Top 40 radio, Deal Or No Deal, Benchwarmers, Stephen King and the newspaper comics, for example?

I'm Star Wars, she's Lord of the Rings. But we make it work, and we both try out each other's hobbies. She even started reading manga because I convinced her it wasn't all like Naruto.

Like most other things, it is important that your significant other appreciates YOUR love of pop culture. It is not important that she enjoys it herself.

My girlfriend doesn't read comics. But she still asks me questions about what I got and what's happening in the books to let me know she supports my hobby, even if she's not going to start reading them regularly.

absolutely not. though I wish she did like the same entertainment as me (we're almost on the same page with movies fortunately) it has no bearing on my relationship. we both have diff entertainment interests and respect eachother's preferences.
