Anyone know the exact reasoning for this one? The rest of the increases seem pretty obvious and reasonable but this just looks odd.
When we ring up comics in our store all $2.99 and $2.95 books get lumped in one pile and rung up as $2.95 each.
Interesting. I wonder if a lot of other places do this too and if the comic companies know about it. I'd imagine that can add up to a lot of money over a period of time

The shop would still be paying the company their regular price. They're just cutting into their markup.

Exactly. But wouldn't the retailer's price for a $.99 book be more than a $.95 book or is the price difference so insignificant that it doesn't matter on that level? I mean, is the $.04 difference consistent from company to distibutor to retailer on down to final consumer or is it only supposed to hit the final consumer?

I'm not sure I'm following you... But I'll try to explain anyway.

The comic shop buys DAREDEVIL from Marvel a, let's say, $1.50 an issue. At that point, they can charge whatever they want for it. If they sell it at $2.99, they'll make a profit of $1.49 per book. But for the sake of convenience, the shop could ring it up as $2.95. They've still paid $1.50 for the book, so the four cents comes out of their profit.

Boy, that's one of the most pathetic things I've heard. You really need to go outside more.

Understood. What I'm asking is if retailers pay that same $1.50 for every book regardless of the suggested retail price or if the numbers are different depending on how much the publisher's cover price is for the book. Like say, $1.50 for a $2.99 book and $1.46 for a $2.95 book.

That, I don't know. Surely one of the resident retailers would be able to answer that question though.

Theoretically, I suppose Marvel could even charge a retailer less for a $2.99 book than DC would for the same cover price.

This is BS. Marvel tells us that prices are going up because of low sales, sales go up, so prices go....up.

    Wonderful.

But when I actually read the post, it turns out all the effected titles that I read I was picking up in trades anyways. So go me!
I find it easier to, ahem, roll off of, as it were.

This increase was due to the time when Marvel started putting gatefold recaps in their issues.

This sucks... Well, time to trim the fat a little more to maintain my budget. Way to go Marvel, you're really going to increase sales now!

Already cut: MK Spiderman, Spectacular Spiderman, Star Wars: Empire

Next up: Ultimate Secret, UFF, Amazing Spiderman

Moving to TPB's: Daredevil, Ultimate X-Men
