DC: The New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke

i bought some superhero comics tonight! well, just this and the second issue of paul pope batman.

anyhow, i've heard a lot of great stuff about this comic, and even though i'm not familiar with dc stuff, i'm looking forward to it, quite a bit. the art looks very nice.

what were your thoughts on it?

ps- i only have the first volume

    cool.

is the second volume a necessary continuation of the first, or are they kinda stand alone?

Continuation, it's all one story. It's one of my favourite DC works. I loved it. Just thinking about it makes me giddy.

It's a continuation. The first volume seems to just be telling some really interesting character tales and whatnot, but the second volume brings it all together in a giant conflict.

I like that book alot. It had some minor rough patches, but at the same time it's the only thing I've ever read that I found Hal Jordan interesting in. And that's a huge bit of praise right there...

soo, if i read the first one tonight, it won't seem like a major cliff hanger in a two episode tv show or something to that effect? the first book is more self contained stories, and the second brings these together (just repeating what you said, i suppose). anyhow, that makes me feel better.

and hal jordan is the original green lantern (i know there's the black green lantern from the cartoon, some guy in a jla trade i read a couple years ago, and the funny orange haired one) from the 40's?

No, that's Alan Scott. He's actually cool. Hal is the guy that went apeshit and became Parallax and tried to wipe out the DCU, but is now good again and is the main guy in the current Green Lantern book.

    He's boring... except in this.

oh. so Alan Scott was the Green Lantern who had a big cape, with the red shirt?

huh, i always thought that was hal jordan.

well, i'm glad to hear he's interesting in this, then.

Fantastic Mini-series. Why DC decided to release this in 2 seperate volumes instead of one Hardcover is beyond me.
