I jumped out of bed this morning and my big toenail got caught on a chair near the foot of my bed. I felt this sharp pain and then saw my whole toenail on the bed.
Looked down at my big toe and it looked like someone put red toenail polish on it. My first thought was: OH NOES!!
Then I went into shock.
It really sucked...Cold sweat, kinda numb all over...I knew I had to do SOMETHING about the bloody toe, so I stood up and limped to the bathroom- put my foot into the sink and ran water over it...if I thought the pain of ripping my toenail off was bad, it was nothing compared to the water on it.
More shock set in...I stumbed back into my bed to ride it out.
After 5 minutes or so, I managed to get out of bed...found out I had no first aid stuff at home (I should really pick some up), so I wrapped my toe in toliet paper and drove to work (where I knew they'd have a first aid kit)...
Got here, wrapped it in some gauze (Still need to find some Peroxide- probably in a few minutes), and it's actually pretty much fine now...I mean, it hurts- but it's probably only about a 2/10.
Anyone ever had this happen to them? If so, how long before the sensitivity of my toe goes away? and about how long before I grow it back?
When I get home I'll post up pictures to gross everyone out.
I thought they didn't grow back if they got ripped out.
My dad had to get two toe nails removed because they kept getting ingrown for some reason. They are still nasty looking 10-15 years later. Good luck man!
Really? it doesn't come back the same?Originally Posted by metalgoober

Nah, it grows back.. not sure how long it takes, but it's not that long.
This happens to my "pinky toe" all the time.
I once dropped a heavy box and tried to catch it with my foot. My toenial on the big toe first turned black and within a few days it fell off. I don't remember how long it was but the skin where the nail should be at hardened until it became a nail. It was weird but cool.....
Hmm. I am not sure exactly what he had to have done, but his 2 toenails somewhat resemble... I am not sure exactly what, but it is pretty bad. I tell my wife not to look directly into them or she will turn to stone.
