Shwicaz sent another letter to the editor....

    ....that probably won't get printed.

Read this article in The Boston Globe this morning:

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/art...ex_ed_measure/

Here is the letter I sent in response to the article:

    To Whom it May Concern:

I read, with interest, your article on the hearings regarding the school health measure, and its inclusion of discussions of gay marriage and same sex relationships.

I found this point infuriating: " Several of the critics also oppose same-sex marriage and object to having homosexuality taught in schools."

As an adult gay man who remembers his schooling, I found the critics reasons for dissent laughable.

I spent my health class learning how babies are made. Also in school, I learned how a family is made up of kids, a 'mom' and a 'dad'. Nothing was ever taught to the contrary. No other viewpoint was ever raised.

If these kids have to sit through frank and honest discussion of homosexuality and same sex marriage, what is the big deal? Gay marriage has been legalised in Massachusetts. Kids today have gay parents, uncles, autns, and grandmothers.

I know of many gay men and women who spent their school days being 'taught' heterosexuality. We seemed to turn out just fine......what are these parents so afraid of?

Have faith, just like when I was in school, some kid whose parents let him stay up late watch HBO will bring up all the points the school system doesn't want discussed.

Not to be an ass, but what is wrong with having to sit through listening how babies are made ? Any other method of baby making is unnatural. And why homosexuality maybe natural, it is not the norm. I dont see why schools would necesarily talk about homosexuall families.

Do you also see any reason why a school health class that is discussing birth, families, and sexual relations wouldn't talk about them?

When I was kid in health class we watched that NOVA 'journey of life' thing.

We saw films on how it is 'okay to masturbate'. We had assemblies for the boys on how to put on a condom to promote safe sex. The girls had a film about menstruation.

Is it the school's place to teach children about sexuality? Maybe, maybe not, but in this day and age where girls are willing to blow anybody, or have anal sex, just so they can say that they haven't 'lost their virginity', then maybe its time that someone else take the reigns and allow these discussions to take place outside of the home.

Who wants to talk sex with their parents?
