Invincible has lost its Mo.
It's true. I'm sorry to say it, but this title no longer does it for me. Some of those early issues were incredible, and the storyarc where Mark found out the truth about his father were among the mose heartbreaking and brilliant comics ever written. But lately the book has left me cold, and this issue is no exception. A lot of running storylines coinciding, and none of them grabbing my attention. It's not a bad book by any means. Lord knows it's better than, say, anything written by Judd Winick. But this is Buffy season 4, pure and simple. In a lesser book, I would have been glad to see this issue, but it's not good enough for Invincible. And in a week with 3 ultimate titles, Teen Titans, and Ex Machina, it was relegated to the bottom of my reading pile.
5/10
I may not be able to get my comics this week.
If you don't see a review from me, sorry.
I've flipped thru issues in the past, and have a vague idea what the series is about and who the characters are. This is one of those series that if comics were cheaper, I'd probably pick up. It seems like a fun read.
But they arn't, so I don't.
This issue is clever. That's not the same thing as interesting. But Kirkman does have a way with dialogue. I was kind of disturbed by how calm Invincible was about the bodies on the roof. He didn't seem to really care that 2 people were just murdered.
That's what I didn't like about the issue actually, the 'clever wit'. While he was traped in that 'dark dimension', he was clever and witty. While he was fighting the robot, he was clever and witty. ect. Seen that, been there.
The Robin clone who takes Batmans place, snaps and starts killing people? *yawn*
This issue is kinda-sorta interesting I guess, but it's also more than a little cliche and annoying.
Going with a 4 out of 10.
Invincible #21
I thought this issue was a lot of fun. Snappy dialogue, spiffy artwork, and a lot actually happens in this issue. I really want to see what the deal is with Robot now, and also what the two clones and the dude with his dimensional duplicates are up to. This is the way super hero comics ought to be.
I give this issue an 8 out of 10.
i'm not in the group, but i'll pop in with a review either tomorrow or friday
Hey Auron - Denny hasn't been around, and I know he wants to pick a Small press book for his choice - something that we should probably give everyone a full weeks notice to have a chance to order.
If he doesn't show today, would you be ok with making your pick this week, and Denny going next week?
small press...like a mini-comic?Originally Posted by Thudpucker
