::SHOCK:: Warren Ellis ISN'T A Cranky Bastard

    From bad signal:

FELL 1 has now sold more than any
    original creator-owned book I've
done since, I think, MINISTRY OF
SPACE. So, if nothing else, it's nice
to know I haven't totally lost it yet.
One shop owner wrote in yesterday
to tell me that FELL is bringing into
his store women that he's never
    seen before, looking for episodes.
Which means that, at least in one
place, it's doing one of the jobs it
was intended for -- pushing a few
people back into comics shops. This
gives me hope for the novellas I
want to do next year --
    self-contained works with a spine
for under ten dollars that won't be
    available to bookstores for years.
Which sounds silly to some of you,
I know, but I already have a lot of
    books available in bookstores, and
it won't kill me to design something
    specifically for the direct market,
    that hopefully pulls more people
    over retailers' thresholds and
    repays those retailers who've
supported me over the years with
    new customers
    .
He really loves super heros. It's super heroics in trying to save the direct market.

Yeah...I said just last week that his cranky spider jerusalem persona was just a facade.

I keeop meaning to sign back up for Bad signal but never do.

Warren's career is fairly close to what I want. Tons of creator owned work, experimental things on the internal and external side, and some WFH.

I'd probably do more superheroes than him though.

I never figured him for a cranky bastard. I always assumed he was five smaller, robotic cranky bastards that fused together.
