Now that the whole 'mystery Avenger' thing is over...

...is there anything remotely close to this that can take its place? Will anything get quite that much hype again? I mean, the speculation started a year and a half ago, when Bendis announced he was taking over the title. Whether or not you're happy with the resolution of this whole thing, you have to admit that it was a really well-kept secret for a long time and it got a lot of people talking. (Too much for my tastes, but I like to complain a lot.)

So will anything, Bendis-related or otherwise, work the fanboys into a froth quite as well as this did, or have we witnessed some sort of once-in-a-lifetime nerd event here?

I'm hoping something like this comes out of the current Wolverine arc.

Possibly "Who is Wolverines child" where after 11 months we find out it's Jean Grey, that would kick my ass.

Well, the fans seem to be in a tizzy over One Year Later. But I'm sure there'll be another mystery that gets this much publicity.

I also think something from Wolverine will be good. Plus maybe thoughts about whatever the big Marvel crossover thingy for next year is.

I stand by my opinion that the whole hype was bullshit made up by the fanboys.

If it doesn't get a press conference, a newsarama article, a wizard article, and several mentions on Joe Friday's, it ain't hype.

This thing markets itself. Leak a cover with a mysterious extra figure, refuse to talk about who it is... and let the internet fanboys do all the work.

Bendis certainly did his part here, stoking the fires. He loves fucking with us like that.
