Thread: Is mulatto a derogatory term?

    Is mulatto a derogatory term?

Maybe I'm naive but i had to do a report of someone who broke into a car at work. One looked mixed race so i put mullatto in the report because the dictionary defines it as someone of part or half African American and half Caucasion or Europian discent. One African american person who i worked with for like 7 months and got along with great now won't speak to me. I didn't even know why untill someone told me afterword. I'm prety sure Im not going to apologize because he should know me better than that from working with me that i could care less what someones color is and I doubt he would accept it anyway. So i guess live and learn. I know I've had people call me cracker-boy or whatever and I could care less because I know who I am so i don't understand why someone would be so sensitive about a term that wasn't intended as derogatory and wasn't even known that it was. So is it?

Any person who thinks it is deragatory is an idiot to say the least.

It isn't deragoatory unless put into the wrong hands.

I know. One of my best friends has two "mullato" kids, yet I would never call em that. It always stuck me as rather crackery.
