I've heard the novel is much better than the movie (not saying the movie was bad). Although the novel goes further into the relationships the students had with each other prior to the incident.

I actually think the movie was a better adation than the shitty manga. I mean, yea, the manga followed the storyline better, but all the melodrama is just ridicoulus, and the art, aside from being just goddam ugly, makes all the characters look too pretty and "perfect", where in the book they're all described as ordinary-looking people. The movie followed that well.

Yep; that's it. It's overly violent but brilliantly executed (pardon the pun) for perfect effect.

my favorite part is when the japanese kid consoles the other japanese kid for being kicked off the baseball team by giving him guitar lessons cause he dosent have a dad. best part.
