How are this years TV shows stacking up?

I guess the amazing year we had last year has spoiled me, because not one of these new shows is looking that exciting.

Lost, House, Boston Legal, Battlestar Galactica, and The Office. Pretty damn fine first seasons. And shows like Desperate Housewives, the O.C. and Grey Anatomy - even though I don't watch those three they are undeniable solid and popular.

You think any of these new shows look like they can hold up with last years shows?

(and yes, I am well aware that most havn't aired yet. I'm making the thread now so we can speculate, then post later to see if the premieres matched expectations)

There's some promising things out there. Invasion and Threshold are getting great reviews across the board, and people are saying Reunion, Prison Break, and Supernatural are great guilty pleasures. Commander in Chief, with Geena Davis, is getting surprisingly good reviews too. On the sitcom front, there's a lot of buzz for Everybody Hates Chris, My Name is Earl, and How I Met Your Mother. That should be enough stuff to pick up, in between the hundred new crime shows.

The only ones that may have a chance are (in no specific order):

    Prisonbreak
    Supernatural
    My Name is Earl
    Invasion

I've liked Prisonbreak so far as a "clean" combination of Oz, the Sopranos and 24. All the others are based off coming attractions. I could add Reunion, but I don't think I'll be watching that one at all.

My Name Is Earl looks interesting, that one might be good. The premise of a Redneck going around trying to make good all the wrongs he has done, I like that.

Threshold looks promising, like maybe it will be Aliens turning people into Zombies? The cast is good, I hope they do something good with them.

Apparently most people are underwhelmed this year as well.

I tried to watch both The War at Home and Reunion this weekend. And I really tried to give them a shot. I lasted no more than 10 minutes into either of them and felt like I had been bareback ass-raped by C.H.U.D.'s.

War took the bad parts of Titus and put them to an obnoxious laugh track and Reunion had the worst 10 minutes of overacting I've seen this side of the UPN.

I don't watch much TV, only CSI really, but I like Jason Lee so I'll check out My Name is Earl.

Prison Break has been not bad though. It's pretty freaking unbelieveable, but I'm going on their ride for at least a couple more weeks.

Invasion and Threshold aren't getting great reviews, IIRC. I may try 'em, though.

Reunion is BAD. Supernatural is getting 'eh' reviews.

Prison Break is alright, but I wouldn't ever think anyone would call it a guilty pleasure. It couldn't keep my interest for more than twenty minutes or so.

CIC is getting halfway decent reviews. I get a been-there, done-that impression, though, due to West Wing (when Sorkin did it).

Also, McAfee, I see no Sopranos in Prison Break. Because there's a mobster? The mobster did not strike me as so compelling. Certainly not compelling enough to watch the show for more than twenty minutes or so. It didn't seem like he was the main character, either, which would have been Sopranos-like. Plus, PB didn't have the immediate depth or spectacular dialogue of the Sopranos.

I am looking forward to Extras, Big Love, Lucky Louie, Suckers, Everybody Hates Chris, My Name Is Earl, and How I Met Your Mother. I will give Kitchen Confidential and maybe Surface a shot.

See, this is where I'm having a problem with "Prison Break." I've only seen the first episode, but it seemed entirely too clean, too civilized. After "Oz," I simply cannot take a prision drama seriously that doesn't involve somebody having a swastika branded into his ass by the end of the first episode. At *least* someone should be burned alive, shouldn't they?
