Yeah, and I totally understand that. Riffing on Simple Plan and bands like that. But Green Day isn't just a bunch of whiney teens singing about broken hearts. They are actually saying something meaningful AGAINST the "man". I thought that automatically put you in the punk cool book.

I'm seriously curious, and don't want this to be a whole big thing, but I've noticed lots of people hate on Green Day around here. What's the deal? People saying they are sellouts or corporate punk or not punk at all... it just flabbergasts me. Every track on their newest album is gold, and the writing is brilliant, pretty much everything punk is supposed to stand for. Is it because they're popular?

I just find it ironic that punk apparently has a status quo.

I wouldn't even call their first album punk. Pop-punk, yes, but not punk. It's not angry enough, and it's WAY too slickly-produced to be punk. And it's really only been this latest album where I've noticed any sort of political message. Don't get me wrong, I think they write great songs, but they write pop songs, not punk.
