That truly is a great thing to do. I hope it brings up a lot, but I guess it will.

This is the POWERS #1 from the IMAGE series, the first Powers cover ever I was yapping about before
INKWELL AUCTION FOR KATRINA RELIEF ANNOUNCED
As we’ve seen, in the days since hurricane Katrina came ashore in Louisiana and Mississippi, the comics community has come together to help those in need, with auctions, benefits books, and plans for helping affected retailers in the region.
Joining the growing list of professionals and groups helping comes Ink Well, an auction organized by Joe Quesada and George Belliard to benefit the Red Cross.
“I had been communicating with many people from the creative community all last week as we were watching the horrible events unfold and we were brainstorming as to what to do,” Quesada said. “The devastation from Katrina seemed to need immediate attention. It was a very close friend of mine George Belliard and my wife Nanci who suggested an auction as the best way to maximize the folks in the creative community. George had done this sort of thing before for other charities and he was offering his help here so I thought it foolish not to take him up on it. Thanks to the internet today online auctions can be set up rather quickly for things like this so it kind of became a no brainer. By the way, it’s important to note that this is not a ‘Joe Quesada thing’ but a comic industry initiative. All I did was use my address book and my position as EIC to start an e-mail chain. What is of most great importance is how our industry is always there to react to horrific situations like Katrina.”
While Quesada is holding the full list of creators who’ve donated art or other items (currently totaling somewhere between 60 and 100 creators), he was able to name a few names: “We’ve gotten confirmations from so many great creators like Chris Bachalo, Brian Bendis, Richard Corben, Steve Dillion, Garth Ennis, The Kuberts, Jim Lee, Jeph Loeb, Joe Mad, Mark Millar, Mike Oeming, John Romita Jr…. the list just goes on and on.”
The auction will include artwork from the artists as well as signed scripts and books – Oeming’s previously announced cover to Powers #1, for example, will be one of the auction’s highlights.
Currently, the Ink Well auction is slated to start Monday, September 12th, with the first of three five-day eBay auctions. The second and third auctions will begin on September 13th and 14th, respectively.
“All proceeds minus the eBay fees will go directly to the Red Cross. I’ll have more info as to what those fees will be shortly as we’re still deciding exactly who will host the auction. We’re currently setting up a website, www.inkwellrelief.com that will hopefully be up tomorrow or on the outside Thursday, that will have more information with respect to bidding and the pieces that will be available and a direct link to the eBay seller page. If you choose to just search eBay directly the seller name/ID is inkwell2005.
“I’ll also have more information about the auction on Joe Fridays later this week.”
That truly is a great thing to do. I hope it brings up a lot, but I guess it will.

Can we get a sticky on this?
The sheer quality and amount of things that are being donated to Katrina benefit auctions is staggering. Thumbs up to anyone who has donated or bid in any of the benefit auctions.Originally Posted by Chris Busse
