    Dave Sim Collected Letters 2004

contains a response to a letter from our very own Tony Palermo (TIP). Congratulations, man, you're part of Cerebus history.

The book itself is really cool so far. Sometimes the one-sided conversations make it difficult to follow, but overall it provides a lot of interesting insight into the mind of the greatest comics creator of all time. I recommend this book at least to all fans of Cerebus (though I'm only a little ways into it, so my recommendation should be taken for what it's worth). But, anyway, it looks like good stuff.

Read a few last night. I'm in there (Kevin Boyd).

There's one lengthy letter he sent me where he goes into detail about why he thought the June 2004 "Torontocon" (the Paradise show) appearance was going to be very dull and kind of weird. He also mentions that he didn't think anyone really cared about Cerebus.

Happy to say that I thought the signing was a great success and I think he did see that people cared. He had a huge and consistant line-up that kept him busy from the minute he walked in to the the end of the convention on Saturday. Same thing again this last April.

And he did get at least one acolade for completing Cerebus, as this last spring. The Canadian fans selected the completion of Cerebus as the most outstanding achievement by a Canadian Creator (or creators) in 2004. www.shusterawards.com

Thanks, man. I updated my sig last night when I got home from the LCS. Naturally, I pre-ordered the COLLECTED LETTERS and flipped to the index at the shop. Oddly...very oddly...the comic shop dudes were mightily impressed that I was starring on Page 67 of the collection. It's pretty sweet, man...totally unexpected. My letter was a Thank You to Dave (and Ger) for their appearance at SPACE that year...the self-same year that the Tickle-Me-Cerebus my wife had created accompanied us to Columbus for the Con (see the opening response paragraph from Dave and his 'fisting' comment/bon mot).

The TMC in question for those who haven't seen it before.

    Totally cool.

    AND

The book is fascinating (and fucking huge...shit loads of letters to read, man).

He'll throw you like a newborn from the roof like a Pope gone power mad AND take all your gold.

Not much of a parasol guy myself...or a pederast for that matter.

Maybe I'll do it up Michael Des Barres style?
