I like the Matrix movies. I don't consider them the greatest films ever, though I did like them more than the last two Star Wars films, for example. I wasn't as blown away by the fight scenes in the first one, as I had been a fan of asian cinema for a long time.

I like all sorts of movies. No crime in liking the Matrix films, though yammering on about them incessantly perhaps should be a crime. Of course, ranting on about anything incessantly should be a punishable crime...

Dude, this is pretty much me to a T. I never said I enjoy so-called "great" films exclusively. Pretty sure I added the zombie thing as a qualifier for anyone who might think otherwise. The thing that keeps being hard for me to reconcile is that I consider this particular friend of mine to be one of, if not the, most intelligent friends I have. And he thinks the Matrix is the greatest movie ever. And he will not watch anything that strays too far from the Matrix formula. It just seems odd to me, is all.

Each Matrix film is EXACTLY as good as the other two.

They're the best example ever of movies to watch on DVD where you only watch the cool parts and skip everything else.

It is my theory that every group of friends that travels in the comic/scifi/fantasy circle has at least one member who thinks that the Matrix is th be-all, end-all of movie-dom.

Yeah, I have one of these friends.
After seeing the crap that was Matrix Reloaded, no one in my circle of friends wanted to see the third movie. This guy saw it, then was so sure the rest of us would like it that he took us to the theater and bought us all tickets.
Despite his insistance, I remain unimpressed with the Matrix sequels.
