Also, yeah, that whole thing with the 12 pissed me off. That destroyed a lot of well-plotted buildup and its only lasting result was another reason for cyclops to be a personalityless dick.
Marvel forced the two Xorns thing.

I sincerely doubt any loose ends of the Austen run will ever be dealt with. Most likely they'll all be retconned within a year. And my advice is not to push Marvel too hard for an answer. When we demanded a resolution to who Green Goblin 5 was in Spider-man after the reboot, they gave us an answer. It turned out to be a clone. Of nobody.

Oh late last night i remembered another horrible stoiry line that stemed from a unanswered question. You guys remember the whole Bishop (one xman will betray us all thing?)

That had promise until we all found out the x man that betrayed everyone was Onslaught/Xavier himself.

    Stupid onslaught...

by "big missing x-men question" I thought this thread would be about why Marvel can't get it's shit together and have great creators doing new and interesting things with these books. Astonishing is the shit, but thats only been what, 6 issues so far? Look at how much substandard x-shit we had to wade through to get there. And Morrisons run was good, but it was marred by art inconsistancy, so I don't count it as "great'. Honestly, it's been 15 years or more since X-men has been great. And a year or two of Astonishing hardly balances the ledger.
-whew- Sorry, end of rant, carry on...

But he was a kick-ass boss in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2!

    Yes, I'm a geek.

Because the books are top ten even if Austen or Claremont is writing them. Marvel would rather put their top creators on the books that don't sell as well without a good team, like Captain America or Avengers. And it makes sense, but sucks for us X-fans.

I think thats kind of a cynical way of looking at it, but if it's true, thats really shitty.

It's true. The X-men really stand alone in the comic book world as the only characters who will sell above almost anything else no matter who's writing them. Every other character's sales depend on who the creative team is, but not X-men. It just makes sense that when Marvel has to pick what to put their best writers on, they'll pick the books that need the sales help, not the ones that are safe top ten books with a writer like Austen. I think Joss is writing Astonishing solely because that was the only book he wanted to write. I also think the reason nothing original has happened with the X-men in a while is because the honchos are afraid to mess with a good thing. Morrison's run changed things up a lot and introed a lot of new characters and elements, but look how quickly it was retconned. And it sucks, because the X-men can be amazing. I can't wait to see what Bendis does with them in House of M. But as long as they're a dependable cash cow for Marvel, the regular books will never get the attention they need.

Which would make Austen -- Robert Reynolds/Sentry??
(And all those 'deleted' books the responsibility/fault of Dr. Strange and Reed Richards.)

It's bad enough already, don't give the man any greater enhancements. I think I dropped all of my X-books because of him. (And Claremont.)
