Post-fight interview with Randy. Basically this was always gonna be his last fight and he was gonna retire regardless of the outcome.

Still sad to see him go.

Shit always late to the party.
Fuck it though. Sounded like a good card.
Sad to see Randy go, but damn i think it's for the best. From what I read, he was slow from the start and a bit too cautious. Even when he was the aggressor he was beaten to the punch. Good for Liddell though, he's becoming a great champ.
Here's hoping for a Liddel vs. Babalu.
Or shit...let's have a Liddell vs. Rampage rematch...Fuck I could dream.

Shit it also sounds like Mir got beat down...

Yeah, Mir was just not ready to go. He was very, very rusty and I don't think he was in shape either. Sad, really. I know a lot of folks don't like him but he's one of my favorites.

Randy just seemed gunshy, or whatever the word is. It seemed like he was very worried about getting hit with a powerpunch, to the point he was just too cautioous.

I really hope we get Babalu vs Liddell next. Babalu has been incredible since the last fight and really deserves a shot.

    Re: The OFFICIAL MMA Thread

UFC 57 was a pretty good show.

Nick Diaz vs Joe Riggs - Nick Diaz gets robbed ONCE AGAIN! Fuck, first they give Diego the questionable decision against Diaz, but that match was much closer than this one. Diaz clearly dominated on the ground, and if it wasn't for the cut i'm sure he would have won. Even Joe Rogan scored the bout as Diaz winning the first 2 rounds, his BJJ is vastly superior, but I think to judges it looks like Diaz is just on his back too much.

Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs Mike Van Arsdale - Babalu is another deadly vale-tudo style guy, I'd say he's a serious threat to Chuck especially if he can get Chuck on the ground, it may be all it takes with this guy's deadly BJJ.

Jeff Monson vs Brad Lee Hinkle - HO-LEE-FUCK! Why haven't I heard of Monson before? I was laughing at his name Monson, I thought he was gonna get "munsoned" but this guy is an ANIMAL! He is fucking JACKED! He almost killed this fucking guy with a DRAGON SLEEPER! Watch out for Monson as a serious threat to the Heavyweight Division as well, book Arlovski/Monson already Dana! He needs to just call himself "The Kingpin" Jeff Monson, and after he wins he can yell..."You just got Monsoned, BITCH!"

Brandon Vera vs Justin Eilers - Vera is without a doubt THE TRUTH! Hitting the guy on his way down with that knee to the face was UNREAL! This guy is so talented, and he is only getting better. He is gonna take the UFC's heavyweight division by storm, and I believe him when he says he's gonna drop down to light heavyweight and win that too. I think he probably could take Liddell honestly. And I cant fucking wait to see Vera vs Arlovski, if or when it happens, thats gonna be a hell of a match. Maybe a Vera vs Monson match for the #1 contender's spot is in order....imagine that one.

Frank Mir vs Marcio Cruz - I thought Mir was gonna win this, seemed like a easy return fight, probably since I had never seen Cruz and I didn't realize Mir put on like 20 lbs. Supisingly, Cruz BEAT THE HOLY FUCK OUTTA HIM! Mir looked wobbly at fist on his repaired leg, and once Cruz took him down and got on top it was all over. Then he opened a cut on Mir's lft eye and you could see the blood pooling in his eye. One of the rare instances when the ref stoppage might have been kinda late...he really got his face pounded and was covered in blood.

Chuck Liddell vs Randy Coture - All it takes is one slip up in this sport and thats it. Randy took a ghost step, Chuck saw it and capitalized with a straight hard shot to the jaw, end of story. Randy is a legend in the sport though, and at 42 its just his time to step down. What a career though, much respect for The Natural.

Paul Buentello vs Gilbert Aldana - Buentello wins with his heavy hands, but Aldana put up a good fight at first, really going toe-to-toe in the 1st. Paul was just too well conditioned though it seemed.

This show seemed to showcase some of UFC's newer heavyweights quite well, and has actually sparked my excitement for the UFC's heavyweight division once again. With potential breakout stars like Vera, Monson and Cruz (and Buentello I guess, though I still think hes a bum) the HW division hasnt looked this good in years.

Yup. Gotta say I really enjoyed UFC 57.

Called 2 of the fights wrong but what can you do?

I agree on the Diego fight but not this one. Riggs won hands down. Diaz needs to train and learn some better standup. He's relying way too much on the ju-jitsu lately.

cruz has only had 2 mma fights but he's had countless bjj fights over the years. he's a great fighter but people outside of brazil just haven't seen enough of him yet to know his skills.

So I stopped by Best Buy and checked out some of the Pride DVDs. So many to choose from but the two that caught my eye were 2 volumes that collect like the first 10 events, 5 per set for like 20 bucks each. Are these worth picking up? It's a ton of fights for the price but they are also fairly old with guys no longer even fighting anymore.

I know KOTC had sets like this, but I didn't know Pride did too. Which Events? There are some really good fights in the early events, but some clunkers too. Pride 10 and Pride 6 were both pretty good. Not knowing which events were on the DVDs I'd say it's worth it. Sakuraba's fights are all fun to watch.

    Think Volume 1 was 1-5 and Volume 2 was 6-9 and 11.
