Very cool. I'm fairly surprised Williams has never drawn a Sandman project before, too.

Did you see the video of the announcement. Gaiman reads passages from early issues of Sandman that hint at this story -- it's one that he's apparently wanted to tell for years. Honestly, when he started doing that, I thought, This is the best possible way to position a revisit to a series: The author saying, "The story I have in mind...? I first started thinking about it here, in Sandman #8."

And as a side note: Beast, your MLP av is starting to freak me out, now that my nephew is using the same pic on facebook. I keep thinking you're him!

He likes to joke about how he didn't get a lot of work in the 90's because all his editors told him his style didn't fit the popular aesthetics of the era....which I'm guessing means he didn't draw lots of lines and shoulder pads on everything.

Heh. He was a very different artist when Sandman was running, too. I picked up the Deathwish mini from Milestone that was his first major assignment, and his art wasn't anything like it would develop into around Chase and those one-offs here and there. It may have been Jimmy Palmiotti's inks, but at that point, Williams III's work looked a lot like Kyle Hotz' stuff, which I guess would actuallly fit the Sandman aesthetic as Kyle Hotz' work looks like an inkier Kelley Jones. Plus, by then, Gaiman had his pick of artists like Jill Thompson, Bryan Talbot, Mike Allred, Marc Hempl, Teddy Kristiansen, Michael Zulli, etc. Afterwards, Gaiman's Sandman projects had artists like Yoshitaka Amano, Milo Manara, Bill Sienkiewicz, P Craig Russell, and Barron Storey, and I don't think Williams III really reached that level of notoriety until fairly recently.

I was greeted with this news as soon as I got to work. Sometimes I really love my new job. <3

Holy potatoes is this great news. Williams is a master of the detailed, clear storytelling image, and Gaiman is...well, he's just a master. I'm buying this when it comes out. Period.
Life is like a roller coaster. It has its ups and downs, but if you sit back and relax you get a heck of a ride.
