    Re: Stupid censorship

Censorship is a direct collision with Realpolitik. On the one hand it makes sense that you would clamp down on people who are clearly only out to incite hate or want to spew their stupidity into the world. On the other, it will always be abused. I guess most people would prefer their own freedom over being spared of idiotic drivel which, let's be fair, can be ignored by going somewhere else.

Sorta related I hope is the following. There is a movie out or was out a few months ago titled Bully. My understanding is that it was a documentary about high school kids getting bullied. The motion picture rating people gave the movie and R (restricted) rating which means teens and under are not suppose to see the movie without an adult. The movie director/producer was so mad because the motion picture people said in essence that the people that would mostly likely benefit from seeing the movie - bullied teens - couldn't see the movie. So if I have my facts straight hte producer pulled the movie from being rated which I believe makes a movie extremely hard to get into theaters and certainly not widely released.

Well, the biggest rating organisations, which, as far as I understand, mainly consists of white middle class moms, gave the movie about bullying an R-rating because the words that one of the children had been subjected to by other children weren't to their liking. Those are the same people all of those Hollywood producers want to satisfy when they bring out th ePG-13 stuff. As a result, because schools aren't allowed to show their students R-rated movies, the movie wouldn't have been allowed to be shown to those that would profit from it hte most.

So the makers went and only applied the rating of another organisation, as I understand an unique move in recent US movie history. As a result of THAT, the motion picture rating people actually changed their rating. I assume because they realised this could set a precedent that severely restricts the power they have grown accustomed to. :3

A great example at the moment is the furore over the 'Thailand's Got Talent' breast painter.

Makes me glad I went to high school before that or I never would have been introduced to Excaliber by our English teacher when we were reading The once and future king and yes she did fast forward through the sex scenes. Hey she was cool but she was smart enough to know that there were somethings that we just weren't mature enough to handle yet

    Re: Stupid censorship

Without censorship this would not be nearly as funny. It's amazing how the mind fills in the blanks.
