I'm a little bit worried Martin takes so long to write these books... he's 63 and his body-mass index isn't exactly the healthiest.

The producers of the TV show has all his notes so they can finish the series.

He also has notes prepared so another writer can continue on after him.

Still...I hope he finishes soon. He has about 4 to 5 years before the series catches up to him and he says he will be done before then.

Hopefully its not another wheel of time fiasco.

Err, saucey, I think there are better ways to describe the unfortunate passing of a gifted author from a painful terminal illness before he had a chance to finish his magnum opus than 'fiasco'.

Jill Pantozzi just posted an article today that has this quote from Martin: "I am aware of the TV series moving along behind me like a giant locomotive, and I know I need to lay the track more quickly, perhaps, because the locomotive is soon going to be bearing down on me. The last thing I want is for the TV series to catch up with me. I’ve got a considerable head start, but production is moving faster than I can write. I’m hoping that we’ll finish the story at about the same time…we’ll see."

Martin further explains that aside from Book 6, The Winds of Winter for those playing at home, he's also working on another prequel novella and an illustrated history of Westeros. And he admits that he just isn't a fast writer. (Shocking, I know.)

Better a good writer than a fast one.

They can always delay the seasons a bit... although with 10-episode seasons, you don't really want to make people wait more than a year. Hopefully all the key cast members can remain committed for the whole run.

They are already dividing book three into season 3 and 4. Which is probably for the best because it is the longest book in the series.

You are right, it is his grandmother. Was thinking it was more distant than that.
