I'm enjoying the book so far.
The Doctor should totally rescue Wesley Crusher from the Traveler, who turns out to be some kind of parasitic being. From there, they have an undisclosed number of off-panel adventures with Wesley as companion and then the Doctor drops him off just before Star Trek: Nemesis with a stern lecture about the dangers of galactic hitchhiking and how he really does belong in Starfleet, explaining why Wes is back in uniform there.
How does that tie into Borg and Cybermen? I don't know.
But Wes is pretty much the epitome of the hated/loved companion.

My first novel is up Amazon Kindle at http://www.amazon.com/In-My-Brothers...8184334&sr=1-1
And now in paperback, too!
Haven't gotten to pick it up yet but I hope it's good.
I finally read it last night, and I was so damn excited I had to write a super-long blog entry about it: http://theidiolect.com/comics/they-a...y-assimilated/
And I totally agree about Wesley. As soon as I heard about this, I thought, "Wait, didn't Wesley become a Time Lord or something?"
Hey look! A blog! http://theidiolect.com
Huh...Wesley is kind-of like Adric 2.0, isn't he? Hell, his last story involved the Cybermen, too. I wonder if that's going to play a role in it. It's something that could make sense to casual fans, thinking the Doctor wants to protect the kid, but the more hardcore fans could see the connection with a "not again" or something.
It kinda reminds me of a first episode in one of the classic serials, where a whole episode would be simple set-up. Plus who knows--maybe that Pharaoh thing will have more to do with the plot than we can see right now. Hopefully the pace will really start to kick up now that all the pieces are in place.
I can see Wesley meeting The Doctor.
"My mother is a medical doctor. What's your discipline?"
"None, preferably."
