Thank god.
The federal Defense of Marriage Act has been ruled unconstitutional by an appeals court.
Now headed to the Supreme Court, which will of course rule whichever way their corporate masters tell them to. I'm guessing they'll overturn DOMA, since gay marriage is good for business.
"Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of corporate and government power." --Benito Mussolini
"I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and to bid defiance to the laws of our country." --Thomas Jefferson
I will get more excited about this when the Supreme court decides.
Of course, who is president will have a big impact. Obama has vowed not to put any resources toward defending DOMA in the Supreme Court. Romney has vowed to appoint a special prosecutor to defend it.
On a related note, earlier today a State Assembly (Dangit, can't remember which one) approved a law which bans attempting to 'cure' homosexuality, pointing out that homosexuality is neither a disease nor a disability and that attempts to 'fix' it leads to actual mental disorders. It still needs to be passed in the State Legislature, but it was expected to pass without serious opposition.
Can anybody find the link that I seem to have misplaced?
Life is like a roller coaster. It has its ups and downs, but if you sit back and relax you get a heck of a ride.
I think they should make it so that trying to "cure" homosexuality is being declared therapy, and therefore can only be performed by state-appointed psychologists whose hours will be state funded. Watch radical conservatives' heads explode as they try to connect their need to "cure the gay away" and their utter hatred for anybody getting a free healthcare-ride.
