... yeah, I'm glad that figure got thrown out. $1.65 billion is much more reasonable. Still huge, but at least it exists.
One of those news stories that is as self-explanatory as it is hilarious.

I"m surprised they didn't actually use the word "bazillion" in their filing.
Every time the RIAA opens its mouth, it makes me want to pirate songs. It makes me want to pirate songs I don't even want to listen to, just because.

Spotify just released in Kiwiland, and I'm hooked. I've already discovered a bunch of new artists. And already bought one of their albums on iTunes. And these amazing services exist because of piracy. Thanks, piracy!
Piracy: Arrrr. You're welcome!

Not big on piracy. I've pretty much just had friends give me burned mix tape CDs three times in my life. I've given friends samplers which, come to think of it, were all or almost entirely composed of bands and artists who oppose the idea of suing for piracy and have abandoned big labels partly over that issue. Love Spotify and Pandora.
The RIAA can suck it.
Also...
I support Steven Page's plan from a few years ago.
Which is, in a nutshell:
NO to lawsuits.
NO to DRM.
YES to artist grants, federally funded music education, tax shelters for artists who receive royalties, pro-union legislation for artists, require transparency from holding companies and collection societies.
Support musicians directly, don't prop up the existing business models just because they exist.
$72 trillion ?!?
A lot of money. It is possible to get an Apple Mac with 4GB of extra RAM for that amount. Apple charge waaay too much for memory nowadays.![]()
I am Queeg...
I never listen to music from artists on RIAA-member labels anymore, anyway. Not because I'm boycotting, but because 99% of major-label music is dogshit.
I find bands that Clear Channel and Time Warner have never heard of, go to Amazon and pay 99 cents for their songs, even if promotional versions are available for free. It's like Kickstarter!
