I've been a Prime member for years. Not having to ever pay shipping pays for the membership.

Huh, now look at that. I had no idea the Amazon experience could be so different over different countries. I pay nothing for shipping books and nothing for shipping anything if it costs more than 20 Euro (at least if it comes from Amazon). And the stuff arrives at most after three days, in general after one or two. So getting Prime for the shipping costs alone is a waste in Germany.

How does Amazon send out their stuff in the US? Governmental post service?

You should have gotten a free month trial with the kindle fire.
If not,ask them about it.
I've been using it for about two weeks now, and so far I'm thinking it might be worth getting for a year.
Two day shipping is nice, but we usually use super shipping when it's available cause we hate paying for shipping.
Mainly, I've been watching a lot of BBC stuff on streaming; but it seems to work well and we have low speed DSL.

I didn't think it was worth it unless you order enough to make good use of the prime shipping which is great.

It depends. Free super shipping (5-7 days) tends to be USPS (Unites States Postal Service), but it's mostly UPS for Prime, although I've also recieved packages from USPS and some company called Ensenda.
