I hated it. Why? Three words."Call me Ishmale"(sp) So fucking forced and cliche and Laughable that it just ruined the movie for me even if that part was well into the movie. I hated the look of the nautalis and nemo. I had no clue who Dorian Grey was or Quartermain for that matter. And honestly Ive tried to read the comic and really disliked it. I dont care for nudity in comics and what ever one I read I seem to remember someone getting banged against a tree.

    1) It didn't have the sense of humor the Avengers had. It took itself too seriously.

    2) For the most part, we got to know these characters in other movies and allow the audience to get comfortable with them. So when Avengers came along, they didn't have to redo all the introductions, they just dove straight into character development. In LXG, they had to introduce the characters and explain new concepts and then get into any character development.

    3) Sean Connery bullied the director to make the movie mostly about Alan Quartermain. You had a director who couldn't stand up to the lead actor and the actor ended up taking control of the movie. This is always bad. See Blade III for another example for this.

Robert Downey Jr. tried to do the same thing and make the movie mostly about Iron Man. Joss Whedon did have to adapt his method of working with actors to make RDJ happy, but in the end Whedon was able to convince Downey to trust him as a director. (It also helps that Downey has more artistic integrity than Connery.)

Yeah, movie and TV executives remain stubbornly, irrationally convinced that Americans can't relate to anything British unless there's an American in it to hold our hands.

Case in point: the lack of any American characters is why the Harry Potter series never caught on in this country.

    Maybe.

Disagree. The movie doesn't seem disproportionately about Connery. And Blade III was the opposite of this. Blade is barely in his own damned movie. It's mostly a bad advertisement for a Hannibal King/archer-chick spin-off.

Re: So why did the movie "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" suck so badly?

There were a lot of reports of Connery bulling Stephen Norrington around, undermining his leadership as a director. This is extremely well documented. Connery says working with Norrington is what made him decide to retire as an actor, and Norrington says that after working with Connery he will never direct another movie again.

    As for Snipes and Goyer:

Both Wesley Snipes and Kris Kristofferson, who at the time had become good friends after working on the two previous Blade installments, were reportedly unhappy with this movie and with David S. Goyer's script decisions. They felt that too many new characters were added to the universe, and that Blade did not need any sidekicks besides Whistler.

In 2005, Snipes sued New Line Cinema and Goyer, claiming that the studio did not pay his full salary, that he was intentionally cut out of casting decisions and filmmaking process, despite being one of the producers, and that his character's screen time was reduced in favor of costars Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel.

Snipes contends that Goyer, his fellow producers, and New Line kept him out of the project's decision process, which ended up harming the film's performance (it made just $52 million, compared to the previous installments that had made $70 million and $82 million respectively). He says that a portion of his salary - $3.6 million - was withheld as punishment.

Given what the result was, I suspect Snipes "bullying" was really just him WTFing over the fact that Blade III was actually being filmed with barely any Blade in it, and was effectively just a big advertizement for a Hannibal King/archer-chick spin-off. Seriously, they kill off Whistler early on when the Blade/Whistler bromance is the heart of what makes the series work. This gives Snipes no one to really play off of. Then they devote tons of time and dialogue to Hannibal and archer-chick, essentially making the movie about them. Frickin awful.

Not to mention they had Parker Posey in it.

Every one should come up with their own LXG group

    1 Tv Character
2 Comic characters (they must be from different companies and no Marvel or DC
    3 Fiction Book Characters
    1 Scifi Character

    For instance.

For my two comic characters I choose the Rumor from Dark Horses Umbrella Academy (they aren't using her so someone should) And Atomic Robo from Red Five.
Books Leroy Brown, Dale Barbie and Ian Malcolm
    TV James Ford
    scifi ?

James Robinson wrote the script, I believe.

    Absolutely.

I liked the movie when I saw. I still like it now. It got me to read the book after all, and the scene with the bats was wicked.
