I'm not really sure what you're attempting with this, but the prison arc ends with issue 48 and you probably shouldn't skip it.
Okay folks, I started watching the show before reading the comic. I now have the 1st two volumes of the comic on my Nook and finished reading them. I believe each volume is 6 issues. Volume Two ends with the discovery of the prison. Discovering the prison is also what will happen when The TV show returns in September.
I know the show is a bit different from the books but tends to follow the comic as well. So here's my dilemma, I don't want to spoil the TV show's arc for myself so I'm looking to skip over the prison arc in the comic.
Does any one know when the prison arc is essentially over in the comic? Can I safely miss it by skipping Vol 3 which is suspect is 6 issues?
Thanks to any and all info!

yeah, if you're that worried about spoiling the show, just hold off on the comic until after next season. the prison arc is Serious Business, and totally reshapes the book.
The Prison arc is a lot of the book, like a lot, and skipping it won't help coz they will mention all the stuff that happened there and you might wonder where certain characters went.. If you don't want to spoil it don't read anymore beyond where it stopped in the show, there's no other way really to keep the show a surprise for yourself.

Yeah, skipping the prison arc and carrying on from there isn't a wise option. Doing so would spoil much of the prison arc anyway... except you'd be spoiling it for both the comics and the tv show, rather than just one.
My advice would be to read the comics. I've read 'em all, and have been enjoying the deviations from the comics' plotline... and seeing where they converge, and what substitutions were made.
But my other advice is: read it soon. Don't wait until right before October: Let the fine details fade a little in your memory.
Yeah. . as others have said, just read the comics.
don't skip the arc in the comic, as it will absolutely be spoiled by discussions in later issues (yeah, the Prison arc has some MAJOR repercussions, that stay with the book for a long, long time).
That said, there is absolutely NO WAY the TV show will go the way the comics went with the prison.
#1 there are some key characters still missing (although they might show up inside the prison, or find thier way to the prison to participate in the season -- OR they might already be part of the current cast, and just haven't become thier comic-book counterparts yet (HIYA T-Dog!).
but yeah. . absolutely ZERO chance the arc on TV will end the same way it does in the comic. . I just cannot see it happening.
so read the comics and enjoy em, and then enjoy the show when it comes back next year![]()

Thanks, everybody. These were exactly the type of answers I was looking for.
I think I'll go with the suggestions of reading the comics because the show just won't be able to follow the comic. Otherwise, it sounds like I wouldn't be touching The Walking Dead in any form for about 4 months - which would be a big downer.
