I'm just interested in seeing how they do a dragon battle on a TV budget without it sucking.

They did a good job. The one with Charming where he was fulfilling the deal brokered by his brothers adopted dad and king midas was done well enough as far as I remember.

Did every on notice the return of Nurse Ratchet and the Chief last night? Im curiouse if next seasons flashbacks will be about them retaking the kingdom while we see the fall out of the what happened in the finale

I just watched this, recorded it last night. Great episode. Emma finally believes. My God, Henry is a ballsy kid, knowing what would happen if he ate that and doing it anyway. And Maleficient was great, too.

The one thing (I think) they've not accounted for, from the fantasy world to the "real" world, is the fairies. Have we seen anything of them? Are they the nuns?

I really like this show a lot, and think it's hands down better than Grimm, which seems to be its opposite number. And that was a hell of an ending...
My first novel is up Amazon Kindle at http://www.amazon.com/In-My-Brothers...8184334&sr=1-1

    And now in paperback, too!

Yeah they are nuns. They featured them in Grumpy's episode.

    Re: Once Upon A Time

This is one of those shows that I have felt could be much, much better than it is. It is always missing something - perhaps a level of sophistication about the motivations and actions its characters that makes it fall just short of what it could be. I think that it has some great characters who rise above the show. I've found the Queen's relationship with Henry to be interesting and puzzling. Why is she so attached to that bratty kid (who I just can't stand)? I think that is the really tragic relationship of the show - a woman who really loves a little boy who has nothing but hatred and contempt for her. As far as we can tell, she has never harmed Henry, so his hatred of her is unexplained and puzzling. There was something in one of the early shows where one of the characters (possibly Maleficent) told the Queen that if she used the curse, she would create a hole in herself that could never be filled. I am hoping that this is a reference to her relationship with Henry.

Anyway, I enjoyed the return of Maleficent and seeing her as a dragon. I do find it strange, however, that she was the one magical being living under Storybrooke. Apparently, she was trapped in her dragon form -but was that done by the Queen (which the dialogue seems to suggest) or was it because she possessed the most powerful magical force in the world?

No it was done by the queen. They clearly said that.

The defining trait of the queen seems to be that she's incredibly lonely, but having been raised by an evil witch she has absolutely no idea how to go about fixing that in a sane, healthy manner.

I find it interesting that her most common punishment is to rip someone's heart out. As anyone who has lost loved-ones can tell you, losing someone you love feels a lot like having your heart ripped out and replaced by a jagged rock. So in her mind ripping someone's heart out is the worst punishment you can do to a person.

Her other big thing is to trap people with her forever. Even in the midst of revenge, she's trying desperately to not be alone. Above and beyond everything else, Regina wants to never be alone. Essentially, Regina is obsessed with escaping her pain. So she tries forever to escape that pain the only two ways she can think of: by tranfering that pain to others, or making everyone be her company.

    Re: Once Upon A Time

I missed that we had started a new thread...

I have the ep dvr'd, but....

    Spoilers:
Wait, did Regina let Emma break the curse because she was really concerned for Henry? If so...nice. Nice to see a different side to her after the bitch she's been to him the whole season. Regina seems to be a woman of intense passions, so if he's broken her shell and re-awoken something in her that's been dead for a long time, I like it.

And I wonder how they're going to handle everyone knowing who they are now, and especially the dynamic between Henry, Emma, Mary Magraret, David, Regina. Because now this means that Mary has a grandson that looks and acts more like her son, a daughter that's the same age as her, and her grandson being the adopted son of her stepmother, which means his mom is also his great-aunt.

...I think there's a "I'm my own grandpa" thing somewhere in all of that.

The thing with Regina isn't that she's evil. I don't think she's evil. Evil implies an inability to feel. Regina's problem is that she loves too intensely in a selfish manner. She's prone to stormy passions because she's not interested in love for its own sake. She likes love because love makes her feel good, and when she can't have that, she flips to the other end and lashes out. And that's the nature of her relationship with Henry. She does love Henry, but because it fills a hole in her.

    Re: Once Upon A Time

    Finally saw this.

They did surprisingly well with the dragon fights. They must have been holding back a lot of budget for the season finale.

More "Lost" references. I guess the Purple Smoke Monster represents magic coming into this world, at least to Storybrooke. Henry seems to think it's a bad thing. Rumplestiltskin and Regina both think it's a good thing (which is a bad thing). But isn't it infused with the essence of true love?

If there's magic now, does everyone get back their true form?
