I don't know if I'm happy or sad about this Disney/Marvel news....

Seems Disney doesn't wanna buy back the rights to Spidey, the X-Men, etc....

While crossovers would be nice, Kevin Feige has said that Marvel Studios only plans on doing one or two movies a year. With that schedule in place, buying back the other franchises would mean fewer movies in total. The alternative would be to risk weakening the oversight that has kept the quality of the self-produced films so high.

Separate film universes with fairly consistent quality, or the possibility of crossover "event" movies (AvX, anyone...? "Civil War: The Movie"...?) within a smaller overall number of films )or, alternatively, the same number of likely lower-quality "rushed-out"-feeling films)... I know which one would get my vote.

Plus, Sony's "Amazing Spider-Man" is already ready to hit theatres.

Disney getting the rights to the character back doesn't give them Sony's version of the movie.

Therefore if Disney/Marvel wanted to put their OWN spin on things they're going to have to wait awhile anyway until after this movie had been out awhile anyway.

As it stands a lot of people question Sony rebooting the franchise even this soon after the last Maguire/Raimi version.

They'd stand a better chance with Daredevil since that movie didn't do so well at the box office and didn't even get a sequel. It's pretty ripe for a reboot.

Actually, Fox is currently working on a Daredevil reboot. David Slade is set to direct (no, not the actor. The guy who directed "Hard Candy" and "30 Days of Night". They got an unknown writer, David James Kelly, working on the script.

It'd cost them a fortune to get some of that stuff back now and wouldn't make it profitable or worth the risk to use them on their own. I don't think they ever had a chance at getting Spidey back but the time to nab FF and Daredevil would have been before Iron Man came out.

What could still happen is that the studios could share the properties for cameos and team ups. It's a rare thing but it worked for Roger Rabbit.

Buying the rights back would just be to expensive I'm sure. Even if Sony doesn't think they can make a profit off, say, Daredevil, they know for a fact that Marvel can, so they're going to make Disney pay through the nose to get the film rights back. Marvel, meanwhile, knows how deep their bench is and knows they don't need Daredevil if they want to turn a profit, so they won't buy it.

I'm not really concerned about crossovers, so I don't really care about them not getting Spider-Man or X-Men back. Those movies aren't perfect, but Sony and Fox have done alright by those characters. I'm not thrilled with a lot of the X-Men franchise, but I want to see Michael Fassbender play Magneto again more than I want to see Wolverine on the Avengers, or whatever.

It would be nice if they got Daredevil back, but that's obviously not going to happen unless something happens to the planned reboot soon. I'd really like to see Marvel get Fantastic Four back. I just don't think Fox is ever going to be able to pull that franchise off, frankly. (I'm not even a big Fantastic Four fan, I just really want to see a good Dr. Doom.)

In the long run, I'd say it'd be better for Disney and Marvel to try and build up the existing film brands they currently have rather than desperately chomping at the bit to get Spider-Man and the X-Men back. Sure I can see why some people would be upset about not getting to see Spidey team up with the Avengers or something, but it's probably healthier in the long run to try and cultivate more potential franchises than try to buy back ones that have already been done.

does Brigitte Nielsen still have the movie rights to She-Hulk?
because if so it would probably be the cheapest to get back.

It's smart. Do we really think there's anyone who didn't shell out money for the Avengers that would have if Spider-Man had been there?
